NIFF Women's Futsal Plate Final

Shankill Leisure Centre

Carnmoney Ladies 3-2 22nd Ladies

Night of the Final came and before we could get to it we were presented with the Division 4 League trophy. We enjoyed that moment but settled down and completed our warm up.

We started well and Abbie cutting the ball back to Kelly to fire the ball into the roof of the net to put us 1-0 up. Unfortunately from a corner Carnmoney equalised within minutes, 1-1.

We then had a moment controversy. One of the Carnmoney players slapped Caroline on the face, what was more unbelievable was none of the 3 referees saw. We settled down and Carnmoney rushed into a 3-1 lead through a mistake by us and a very well taken third. The Carnmoney keeper made two very good stops to deny us before Katrina reduced the deficit with a superb finish to make it 3-2. We pressed on but couldn't find the equaliser.

Second half saw us come out and again control the game. The Carnmoney keeper again the hero making 2 great saves from Emma to protect their lead. They were dangerous on the break and Nicole was off her line quickly to make a good stop to keep us in touching distance. Jade was superb at the back winning every tackle and the girls worked tirelessly to try and get the equaliser but just couldn't find a way past the Carnmoney keeper and defence.

A poor end to a fantastic Futsal season but we will enjoy tonight by celebrating winning Division 4.

NIFF Women's Futsal Plate Semi-final
Shankill Leisure Centre

22nd Ladies 3-3 Shamrock Ladies
22nd win 2-1 on Penalties

After a successful league campaign we faced local rivals Shamrock in the Semi-final of the plate after last week's disappointment of loosing the Cup Quarter-final to Foyle Belles. A game which we probably should have won.

We started of well and missed an early chance. We went behind when we gave away a free kick and didn't set up right slowing Shamrock a simple finish, 1-0. We were not playing well and lost our passing game. But you can't be so good every week. We were still creating chances with the Shamrock keeper making a few good stops. We then replicated our first mistake and went 2-0 down. Kirker was getting even balder at this point. Katrina struck back with a lovely goal to bring it to 2-1. We kept pushing to try and equalise but Shamrock were very dangerous on the break and Vicky had to be quick to make 2 good stops. We missed more chances when we should have been scoring but eventually Katrina bagged her second to equalise, 2-2. The half finished level but we were now looking the more dangerous team.

Second half started well and yes you guessed it missing more chances. A bit of poor tracking and marking saw Shamrock go 3-2 up. Nicole made a good save to keep us in contact. Angry Vicky and Angry Kirker threw a Teddy bear at each other on side line 🤣 order was restored and we all calmed down. We tried harder in the second half to find our passes but as in first half we just weren't flowing well. Shamrock battled very well and made life very difficult for us. Some neat play released Emma who then through rounded the keeper and equalised, 3-3. We pressed for the winner as did Shamrock but to no avail it went to dreaded penalties.

NIFF Women’s Futsal Cup Quarter-Final

Shankill Leisure Centre

22nd Ladies 6-7 Foyle Belles

We were drawn against Foyle Belles from Championship in the cup Quarter-Final and they made the long trip from Londonderry to play us. We found ourselves 2-0 down very quickly to some nice play and could have been more behind only for Vicky the bulldozer in nets making a few very good saves. We got one back when a nice interchange of passes saw Emma fire into the top corner, 2-1. Minutes later we were level when the keeper gifted Katrina the ball and she made no mistake in equalising. Foyle scored to go 3-2 up but straight from the centre Abbie smashed a great strike in to make it 3-3. We worked very hard all over the court. Ashley and Jade were very strong at the back. Caroline, Emma, Abbie Courtney and Tanya all worked hard chasing down in midfield. While Katrina and Kelly both had their work cut out against some very good defenders. Foyle made it 4-3 but you guessed it we equalised again through Abbie who is always vocal and encouraging the team forward. Vicky came to the rescue again making a very good save to keep us level going into the break.

Second half and early doors we found ourselves 5-4 down and only for some good saves from Nicole we would have been more down. Emma then shot from distance and he shot took a deflection in past the keeper to make it 5-5, what a game. We pressed and saw a few efforts saved or just wide. We got a corner and Emma drilled it in but it was defended well but on cleared as far as Emma. She lofted the ball in and Katrina met it perfectly to head into the top corner to put us 6-5 up and in-front for the first time in the game. Foyle looked to be running out of steam and ideas and if anything it looked like we would get the next goal. Unfortunately a mistake at the back saw Foyle equalise and their belief came flooding back. Within seconds they scored a seventh to go 7-6 up with a minute left. We threw on all our attacking players but Foyle used their skill and experience to see out the time. Our first defeat in the futsal this year and a very hard to take one.

We will dust ourselves down for the Shield Semi-Final next week v Shamrock.

22nd Ladies 13-4 Queens Ladies

This was our big game win this and we win Division 4. We started of poorly and went a goal down and it took us some time to settle. Katrina then scored a beautiful opening goal to equalise, 1-1. Katrina then put us 2-1 up with a neat finish wrong footing the keeper. Katrina then slipped through Tanya and with her first touch she deftly flicked the ball past the keeper 3-1 and a cracking goal. Not to be out done Kelly got in on the action with a superb solo goal to put us 4-1 up and we were now really dominating. After a bit of pin ball Katrina had a simple tap in to make it 5-1. Katrina then made it 6-1 and she done that daft Ronaldo whoosh with Emma lol. The girls at the back done a great job defending and keeping the Queens players at bay. While our midfield work very hard and Caroline was unlucky not to score a screamer when she plucked the ball out of mid air but her instinctive shot was just wide.

.

Second half we didn’t come out for the first 4 minutes and Queens hauled themselves back to 6-4 with A delightful own goal by Michelle, think she was wearing her crocks at the time. Kelly got us back on track with a nice finish before Emma smashed one into the top corner from distance to put us 8-4 up. Katrina then scored another two classy goals to make it 10-4 and thank goodness no dodgy celebrations. Emma then made it 11 shooting between the keepers legs. Caroline was really unlucky again when her shot destined for the top corner was well saved by the Queens keeper. Kelly then headed us 12-4 up to grab her fourth of the night and there was just time for Katrina to score her sixth to win the game 13-4.

This was a really special night for the ladies with them about to enter their sixth season this is their first major trophy and hopefully the beginning of them pushing on.

22nd Ladies 11-1 Street Soccer

After last weeks good win and other results going for us we were in a strong position in the league going into what would be a tough game. We started well passing the ball accurately and took an early lead when Kelly thumped home to put us 1-0 up. Kelly doubled her own tally and ours by capitalising on a mistake by St Soccer. She got her hattrick moments later with a lovely deft header to put us 3-0 up and in control of the game.

Things heated up a bit with some strong challenges by both sides before Abbie slotted home another good team goal to make it 4-0 and Katrina got in on the act with a nicely taken fifth. We rotated our players to get the best out of them and everyone played their part from Vicky in goal making a couple of decent stops to Ashley, Abbie and Caroline all slotting in at the back to keep us nice and compact when we needed to. Kelly back into the fray got her fourth before Emma rounded of a nice move to put us 7-0 up.

Tanya moved the ball well in the middle along with Abbie, Emma and Caroline. We were just too precise and clinical for St Soccer. Just before the half Kelly scored her fifth to put us 8-0 up and it could have been more only for St Soccer keeper making some very good saves.

At the break we talked about enjoying the game but remaining respectful and watching for runners going by us. Second half saw Katrina settle us down quickly with a good finish, 9-0. We started to let ourselves go a bit with everyone trying to score and Street Soccer came into the game battling hard and offering a lot more going forward. Nicole made a couple of decent stops to preserve the clean sheet before Karina got her hattrick to put us 10-0 up.

Street Soccer then got the goal that they deserved as they never gave up and had created a few opportunities, 10-1. Katrina got her fourth to make the score 11-1 and try as we might we couldn’t get another. Tanya, Caroline and Ashley tried hard but either were off target or the keeper saved well to keep them at bay. Having conveniently forgotten Vicky wanted a run out field (chocolate ankles) she managed to slip on for the last minute and managed not to hurt herself which was a result. Good performance and sees us top of the Division going into Christmas with four wins from four games.

22nd Ladies 14-0 Belfast Ravens

We went into the game with several key players missing but with confidence high. Unlike last week we got a good warm up done and we started very quickly with Kelly smashing a quick fire brace to put us 2-0 up. Emma goy in on the act either a neat finish before Kelly scored another 2 to make it 5. Vicky was nearly chipped by the Ravens keeper, was it in ? Who knows dodgy nets 🤣. Michelle and Jade were both very strong at the back, defending strongly and passing neatly when the opportunity arose. Ashley and Caroline were both unfortunate not to score before Kelly scored another 2 to make it 7. We kept creating chances and Kelly went close with several headers and the Ravens keeper making 2 very good saves. Emma got her hatrick just before the break, 8-0 and a very good half of futsal.

Kelly opened the scoring in the second half very quickly, scoring again twice very quickly, 10-0. Tanya then scored a nice finish after having about 10 shots blocked. Caroline was sent up front to give Kelly a break and she done everything but score. Keeper made good saves, shot shot wide, missed kicked it, you name it, unfortunately it wasn't to be her night. Emma then hugged the Ravens goalkeeper 🤦‍♂️ from angry to hugging I give up 🤣. Ashley then thumped a great finish too make it 12-0. Emma scored a nice fourth goal to make it 13 before Kelly rounded of the scoring late in the Game to make it 14. Ravens certainly never gave up and battled very hard especially in the second half. The only negative was the Jade looks to have got injured again after a good strong performance.

22nd Ladies 13-1 Rosario Over 30's Ladies

After a strong start last week against Belfast Ladies it was important to keep momentum going.  We started quite sluggish and our passing wasn't great bur Katrina opened the scoring followed by Abbie making it 2-0. Katrina quickly added another two goals to make it 4-0 and we were now in our stride playing some nice football. Ashley strong at the back kept us secure and offered Vicky plenty of protection. Emma then got in on the act smashing home to make it 5 before Abbie struck twice in quick succession to make it 7. Vicky made a decent stop to keep the clean sheet intact before Caroline stuck one in the top corner to make it 8-0. Katrina run the length of the court beating 3 players before falling over herself with the goal at her mercy (Mal Donaghy had a chuckle at HT about it). Katrina got her fourth just before the break to set us up nicely at half time 9-0 up.

Second half saw a more determined Rosario team battle hard to get something out if the game. Katrina scored her fifth to settle us down making it 10-0. Emma then finished a nice move to make it 11 before an error at the back saw Rosario nick a goal they richly deserved for all their hard work, 11-1. Abbie smashed 2 good finishes to make it 13-1 before Emma had to be hooked for getting a bit frustrated at catching a stray arm. Vicky had a run up top but soon realised this back to goal lark wasn't that easy, ripped her tights and hobbled off 🤣. All in all a good result which puts us top of the division after 2 games on goal difference for Queens.

22nd Ladies 9-2 Belfast Ladies

This was our opening game in the revamped Futsal league and started very fast and tense with both teams working extremely hard. 22nd took the lead when Katrina’s shot was too powerful to handle finding the top corner 1-0. We went 2-0 when Abbie making her debut finished off a good team goal. Emma made it 3-0 with another finish from a good team move. With players being rotated to keep them fresh Ashley came on and smashed a forth from distance.

Our Tanya then got on the score sheet to make it 5-0 unbelievably with her right foot which is usually for standing on. Our defence had been very good and on a rare occasion it was breached Vicky was in top form making one really top drawer save. Kelly then got in on the act with a superb low drive into the corner to make it 6-0 before being replaced by Katrina who immediately made it 7-0 with a nice finish. Belfast ladies did beat the impressive Vicky eventually and she set the blame firmly on Emma, poor Emma, 7-1. This was the way it stayed to the break.

At Half time we talked about keeping the ball and working hard for each other and on rotation. Belfast Ladies came out the second half more determined and things heated up and got a bit tasty, but credit to both sides they battled hard and got on with it. Emma then scored a great goal with a lovely step over and roll of the ball followed by a thumping finish into the far corner 8-1. Both sides continued to battle hard and Nicole in nets for Vicky made some very good stops. Abbie who was impressive through out was on the end of another good team move to blast the ball into the near corner to make it 9-1.

Unfortunately Nicole was eventually beaten to make it 9-2. Courtney appeared late and got on for the final 8 minutes showing some nice touches and was very unlucky not to get on the score sheet herself. The game came to a close with Kirker getting his ears burnt from a few on the bench wanting back on for their hatricks but everyone near enough got equal game time and it paid of superbly for us. Some very hard working displays from Caroline and defensively superb Michelle who has grown into a very strong CB.

22nd Ladies 4-3 Ambassador Ladies

After a run of poor results we hoped to improve and get some points on the board. With Jimmy and Kirker doing much needed pitch markings Vicky got the Ladies ready. We started as we have been quite poor and as usual our defence didn't seem to want to mark, something which Quasimodo Kirker wasn't too pleased at. We won a free kick and with Ashley off the field having been told to leave by the referee Ambassadors broke through the space left and took the lead. We then got a bit better but their no4 was very powerful and proving a handful. Emma winning a free kick in a dangerous, position walked to her left. Some quick thinking from Katrina saw her square to Emma who saw her shot saved but Kelly on hand to pounce to equalise, 1-1.
Ambassadors took the lead again when another powerful run from their no4 saw Jo save initially but the Ambassador striker reacted quickest to put the ball in the net, 2-1. We started to get our marking right at the back with Michelle getting tighter along with Abbie and Olivia so making it more difficult for the opposition. Saying that our angry sweeper who has dared to criticise this author before (shes even angry with a keyboard) nearly feel foul of the ref when she was caught with a wee off the ball nudge. Emma box to box was superb and Katrina looked more like her old self with her confidence coming flooding back. This was only improved when she ran down the right and fired us level past the well beaten keeper, 2-2 and back in it.

Angry Vicky hooked for Caitlin by Kirker at the break as he thinks the writer of these match reports is a complete genius. Let this be a warning for being a keyboard warrior i will have none of it i have friends in powerful places. Ash made way for Charlotte who was told that if the no4 went for a pee in the bushes then she was to go and mark her there to.
The second half started and we were a different team, with Charlotte marking their danger player out of it she also played a lovely through ball and Katrina smashed it home, 3-2. Caitlin made some good interceptions and both Caroline's like mini road runners never stopped down the wing. Unfortunately Charlotte lost the no4 and away she went, Caitlin tried to force her wide but she equalised well, 3-3 and what a game we had in store. We continued to battle hard as the sun began to set and were rewarded when the impressive Emma was brought down in the box, penalty....... Katrina placed the ball and coolly slotted it home to put us 4-3 up. Ambassadors started to really press us and put us under pressure but on several occasions Jo was swiftly off her line to clear the danger. Young Abbie-Lea on for the busted Caroline Rainey got to the bye line cut the ball back beautifully for Katrina who unfortunately hit the post with her effort that would have killed the game. Ambassadors kept up the pressure right the the death but through some great determination and fortitude we held out for a hard fought win.

Greenisland Ladies 6-3 22nd Ladies

A well anticipated game, as the 22nd Ladies went into it with something to prove after the last defeat.
The first 10 mins saw their winger break down the line, past the left back into the box were she was met with a well executed but poorly timed tackle. Penalty, and a yellow card for Angry Vicky.
Greenisland go 1-0 up, with Nicole unlucky not to get more than her finger tip on it.
Heads stayed up and we continued to defend the left wing. However Greenisland switched it and it was now the turn of our young right back Abbie to defend. It goes out for a corner, the ladies are slow to get organised and the ball dribbles past 3 players to go in at the front post. 2-0
Tensions rise within the ladies team and the lack of teamwork and a huge gap in midfield from an injured Ashley sees Greenisland score three more consecutive goals before half time. 5-0

Second half, Billi Jo on for an injured Nicole and Michelle comes on in CB for a busted Vicky. A position she has made her own the last few matches. With no stitch in sight the back 4 defended valiantly and with only one more goal from Greenisland that half. 6-0
The ladies determined not to let this get embarrassing, dug in and pulled their socks up..!!
Olivia took full advantage of an awarded free kick from 25 yards out and buried the ball into the back of the net 6-1.
With Jade coming off with a knee injury, Charlotte switched to CB and was a brick wall the rest of the game.
After a change from Greenisland, Caroline switched to the right to ensure they had no more opportunities and to take their left back OUT!
Some lovely football from the ladies to move the ball from the back with precision, Michelle to Tanya and then to the feet of Kelly. She shoots, she scores 6-2.
The ladies continued to push forward with momentum, creating chances and holding possession.
Emma was brought down in the box in the last few mins of the game, up steps our number one penalty taker, Katrina. 6-3 Final whistle.

22nd Ladies 1-4 Rosario

A rearranged game on a pleasant Friday night with the pitch in great condition. The game was quite even with angry Vicky already in the action trying to drive the team forward and scaring everyone in her path. Unfortunately we went behind to a well placed free kick, 1-0. We pushed for an equaliser and Kelly through on goal just over hit the ball allowing the keeper to make a good stop with her feet. With Craig distracting Olivia the winger got by her and Rosario doubled their lead from this. Death stares from Kirker, apologies and after some huffing and puffing we moved on. We then started to play we brought Ashley on for the injured Courtney and she stabilised the midfield and gave us a base from which to build. We started to dominate procession and created a few half chances without really testing the keeper. The one time Rosario got an opportunity Nicole made a fine diving save. We continued to press and it helped the Vicky had terrified the life out of their no 11 plus half our side line lol. We went into the break 2-0 down.

Second half saw us continue to be on the front foot and a bit of needle crept into the game. Both sides started to get a bit physical and the was a few late tackles and a bit of chirping. We continued to press and Kelly through tried to open her body to place the ball but only managed to slice it wide of the goal. Vicky, punctured was replaced by Caroline Rainey who went to the wing and Michelle to centre back. We continued to press and from a scramble Caroline only on managed to scramble the ball over the line for her second goal in 3 games (super sub 22nds very own David Fairclough). 2-1 and we were back in the game. Rosario wobbled a bit and we continued to press for an equaliser and as the clock ticked on we threw caution to the wind and switched to a 343. With the extra player up top and us short at the back it was always a gamble and unfortunately we were made to pay with a good counter attack and a great finish chipping Nicole as she rushed out to narrow the angle, 3-1 and game effectively over. But to our credit we kept at it especially Emma and Katrina who continued to drive the team forward. Again on the break Rosario through on goal saw a shot handled by our super sub, penalty and in the last minute Rosario converted to win the game 4-1. It flattered them to be honest but it was a great game to watch and be involved in.

22nd Ladies 1-4 Killen Rangers ll

Killen made the long journey up to play us for the second time in 3 games and after a very tight game down there. We started very poorly and found ourselves a goal down after some very poor marking and general defensive play. Within minutes we were 2-0 after more rank poor defending. We were creating opportunities at the other end with Kelly shooting wide when through, Courtney trough and having her shot saved. Kelly running across the box was clipped and we were awarded a penalty. Kelly dusted herself down and blasted the ball straight at the keeper who deflected it wide. As luck would have it we gifted Killen a third with yip you guessed it some horrible defending. We then started to wake up some 30 minutes into the game and put Killen under a lot of pressure.

Corner after corner, we had one cleared of the line from Emma, Michelle hit the bar and Charlotte blazed another effort over. We needed a goal before the break to realistically have a chance of getting something out of the game. Unfortunately it didn’t come, 3-0 at half time.

So following a large portion of telling off and a change in some personal we got the second half under way.

We straight away were much better, we defended as we should be by marking and winning the first balls. We also looked very dangerous going forward none more so than when Kelly broke free she tried to open up her body but managed to slash the ball wide. We managed to create a huge amount of pressure but we just lacked the final ball or when we got that right the finish that was needed. We eventually did get a goal back when Katrina broke through and calmly cut her shot back into the corner to make it 3-1 and a glimmer of hope. As we pressed forward we were always open to a good counter attack and Jo made a good diving save to keep us interested. We made more changes and threw the kitchen sink at it to try and get another to really put on the pressure. Emma covered every blade of grass and worked her socks off trying to pull us back into the game. But as was the storey of the game we couldn’t find that clinical finish. Late on Killen got a free kick some thirty yards out, the Killen player floated it beautifully over the wall and into the top corner, a great finish. At that the ref blew for full time and a very frustrating night was brought to a close. Two good tight games against Killen in which we probably could have won both but Killen were clinical infront of goal and we were not !

Allen Park

Antrim Rovers Ladies 6-2 22nd Ladies

After Fridays disappointing defeat away to Killen Rangers we travelled to Allen park to play Antrim Rovers who are flying in the league at present. The conditions were terrible with bouts of very heavy rain making conditions difficult for both teams. We started poorly and continued in this form for most of the first half. Nicole made a good early save to keep the scores level before Antrim number 11 scored a very nice goal to put us 1-0 down. Charlotte was unlucky with a good effort from 20 yards which went straight at the keeper, a few inches either side and it would have found the net. We were a bit all over the place and found ourselves 2 down with what can only be described as awful marking. We got a free kick some 35 yards out. Olivia smacked it towards goal, was it a cross or a shot ? but the ball found its way into the bottom corner, 1-2 and we were back in the game. Unfortunately before we could capitalise and grow in the game 2 mistakes in quick succession saw us go 4-1 down and starting to struggle. It started to look ominous for us when Antrim scored a 5th and looked like they might seriously take us apart. But we held out to the break without conceding further.

Kirker gave them a proper dressing down at half time on lack of marking, desire, excuses and general attitude. Things would need to seriously improve or we could be embarrassed.

We shifted formation to 442 and this seemed to do the trick as we started to hold our own in midfield and win some ball. The game turned into a midfield battle and we started to win some ball. Although Antrim had the majority of the play we came into the game more and certainly held our own. Neither team were creating any chances of note though the 22nd did win a series of corners which caused Antrim a few problems. Their no11 was always a serious danger on the break but we marshalled her better in the second half. Olivia off as she couldn’t breathe along with Vicky who was punctured our new back 4 continued the solid work. Going forward a comedy moment when Katrina blocked a pass with her backside someone shouted great arse and as the ball broke to Katrina she couldn’t control it for laughing. We won another corner and from the resulting scramble Emma was felled in the box. Was it her own player or an Antrim player it was hard to say as the referee pointed to the spot. Up stepped Katrina to score to make it 5-2. We battled on and pressed for a third but unfortunately even the introduction of last week’s hero Caroline Rainey (Not the other one she’s in dog house still) we couldn’t grab another to make it interesting. Billi-Jo made 2 good saves before Antrim Scored from the edge of the box to make it 6-2 and seal a deserved victory.

Killen Village

Killen Rangers ll 4-3 22nd Ladies

We made a very long journey down to Killen on Friday evening with a depleted squad but in confident mood as we had been in good form of late. The game started brightly for us as we made most of the early running. Kelly was very unfortunate not to open the scoring wen she had a shot well saved by the keeper and another wide of the post. Killen were very good wide and made us pay by scoring a good goal on the break to go 0-1 up. We battled back and Kelly through this time made no mistake and blasted home into the far corner, 1-1. We continued to press and probably were just edging the game, when a bit of niggle started to creep in and a few of our players wanted to kill dead things. From a 22nd attack Killen scored probably the goal of the game with a really well worked goal on the counter attack to retake the lead, 1-2. We kept to our guns and pressed to equalise. Jade, Vicky, Abbie and Caroline done very well to stop the Killen strikers from breaking through again. Then Kelly was released down the inside left channel wen by the keeper and she brought her down…. Penalty and a yellow for the keeper. Katrina stepped up to swipe the penalty while Kelly was recovering from quite a heavy fall. Katrina hit the penalty to the keepers right and she made a very good save but fortunately for us the rebound fell for Katrina to burry and bring us level. No more than we deserved and we pressed on in the half looking to go ahead but we couldn’t just find a way through. Things continued to heat up between Caroline and the Killen winger, with angry Vicky lurking in the background. Emma got through some shift in the middle of the park tracking their runners on the big pitch and trying to push us forward. The ref brought a very entertaining half to a close at 2-2.

At half time we spoke about our discipline and the need to not get involved as we were slightly the better side. We again started brightly but that wee feud was simmering on the far touch line. The killen winger got wrong side of Caroline and she brought her down. The Killen side line who behaved very poorly, were on the pitch screaming for a red card (yellow would have been right) the referee obliged and we were down to 10 players! Vicky got us organised and we changed to 4 3 2. Within minutes we conceded another free kick from a dangerous position and Killen went infront with a very good finish, 2-3. It was brilliant to see our team spirit as in times gone by we would have folded and got beaten by a cricket score, but we knuckled down and battled hard to get back in the game. Unfortunately Caitlin who had been very good had to come off with a nasty looking injury. Caroline Rainey on in midfield and she worked her socks off as did every player. We pressed for an equaliser and we got a spell of pressure. From this we won a corner and in the ensuing scramble in the box the killen keeper made a save but Caroline was at hand to poke the ball into the net for her first ever goal ! we were all more delighted for her than with equalising. Killen to be fair rolled their sleeves up and the woman advantage on the big pitch started to tell as they put us under some serious pressure but the back for now with young Abbey-Lea in it was standing firm. Unfortunately the Killen left winger cut inside and bent a good shot into the near top corner to put them back infront. Again it would have been easy to fold but we kept at it even though we were out on our feet we still kept going. Katrina got Kelly away down our right and from a tight angle she smashed a great effort toward the near corner, unfortunately the killen keeper some how kept it out. As hard as we tried we just ran out of time and energy, it was a testimony to how hard we worked when some of our lot were sick after the game through their efforts. We didn’t let the defeat stop us from enjoying the journey home with a few refreshments and some brilliant craic on the bus.

22nd Ladies 12-0 Belfast Ravens ll

We showed up today down to the bare bones with over half our squad unavailable for one reason or another. We prepared well in beautiful bright sunshine and were ready to go.

We started brightly and an early chance was missed. But we made up for it and some neat play saw Scuttle play through Kelly who made no mistake with a cool finish to make it 1-0. Minutes later the same pair combined with the same end result, 2-0. Our corners were causing alsorts of problems for the Ravens and a great delivery from Laura was headed home by Kelly for her hat trick, 3-0. Minutes later Laura cut in from the left and smashed the cross bar with a dipping left foot drive from 20 yards. We continued to press and Vicky sweeping up at the back along with Michelle made sure we stayed in control.
Caroline Rainey on her full debut put in a good shift in midfield winning some important tackles. Courtney I can't see the ball 🤦‍♂️ when nearly through in the box 🤣 think there might be a picture of that. Scuttle then scored a good goal from the edge of the box finishing low beyond the diving Ravens keeper, 4-0. Thank goodness because she did deserve it for all her hard work.
Emma driving through the midfield found Scuttle who in the box was brought down..... penalty. She stepped up to take the penalty and finished in the corner to make it 5-0. We where playing full of confidence now and everyone wanted the ball. From the resulting pressure Laura hit the bar again from a corner. Her deliveries were a constant threat to the Ravens goal. Caroline.C was unlucky not to get away as was Emma and Scuttle who all nearly broke away. Kelly scored her fourth just before half time to put us in a commanding position, 6-0.

Rehydration was the name of the game at the break especially for our ginger contingent. The players were instructed to continue what they were doing but to enjoy this and play their football with confidence but slowly to respect the Ravens.

Second half and we settled very quickly. It wasn't long before the ball fell to Scuttle at the edge of the box send she blasted the ball over the keeper for her hat trick and to make it 7-0. Laura then got the goal she deserved when Kelly rolled it to her coming of the left she slotted in at the near post to make it 8-0. We were pressing well and the Ravens keeper made several good saves to keep us at bay. Kelly fouled in the box this time and another penalty. This time young Abbie Martin stepped up and smashed home the penalty to make it 9 and to score her first ever senior Ladies goal of which I'm sure will be the first of many.
With the game drawing on we brought on another debutant Abbey-Lea to the left. Over the last few months that's now three 14 year old we have had playing for us. Great to see them forcing their way in. Vicky having ginger issues and having tried to empty an escalator during the week was removed to help protect her and Niamh replacing her at the back.
Caroline was running about like a Duracell bunny in heat trying to get a goal,  but the Ravens keeper had other ideas. Think she was still thinking that cow was watching from last week.
Ravens sensed a chance to get on the score sheet and pressed to try and get a goal but credit to the defence they kept them at bay. Courtney scored her fourth to make it 10 with a neat finish from inside the box after dome nice work from Emma and Caroline. Kelly then nipped in and rounded the keeper superbly and finished to make it 11-0. This resulted in her being whipped to left back which to be fair she took extremely well. Abbey-Lea almost got in on the act but was first forced out then had a shot hit the bottom of the near post.
Emma having hugged half the opposition got the goal her hard work deserved by slipping the ball into the net to make it 12. The ref having seen enough called it a day and brought an end to our convincing win. Special mention must go to Raven's who are a great bunch and never gave up for the 90 mins. They are a credit to their coaches.

Dromara Ladies 3-5 22nd Ladies

A beautiful night in a lovely part of the country, but unfortunately we were travelling with 5 very influential players missing due to various reasons. We started ok and the game was quite end to end. Unfortunately Vicky and Michelle thought they were Van Dijk and Matip trying to pass out and got caught 1-0 Dromara. Minutes later another error saw us 2-0 down and things weren't looking so rosey. Katrina through on goal from a tight angle shot wide and was then caught off side twice. Our new formation was taking some getting used to and we just weren't settling. We conceded a third when Caroline got excited by the cows at the fence went charging towards them only to be caught out and result 3-0. Possible nickname coming here I think 🤔 just a suggestion but maybe wee daisy the 🐄 🤦‍♂️. It was nearly 4 only for a very good save from Jo with the Dromara forward clear. At this point Kirker was cracking and pulling what little hair out he has left. Then we got a wee chance Kelly through, clipped edge of box. We all watched the ref, surely a red, as she was clear on goal ? Nope, free kick and that was it ! We then scored, Kelly popping in in but she was adjudged to be off side, Kirker just ripped the rest of his hair out and started talking to the cows.
Then there was hope ! A corner was put in by Tanya and Emma struck to make it 3-1, right on the water break. At this point we were back in it they were starting to look nervy we just had to play to our strengths and win the midfield battle. We went out and from another corner Emma headed in 3-2 ! The Dromara CB made two absolutely brilliant last ditch tackles to keep them ahead to the break. 3-2 half time, we spoke about using channels more and cutting out the daft errors.

Second half started and we started very well. The midfield 3 started winning the 50-50s and from that we won an early corner. Tanya swung it into the near top corner! 3-3 what a turn around, but could we push on to win it ? Dromara came back at us and the game was a proper battle thoroughly enjoyable to be part of. But we broke away down the right (Kirker about to explode because she was on her heels) with Kelly at a tight angle she absolutely busted one into the far corner! Kirker said nothing 🤣. Great strike and an even better way to go in front, 3-4. Angry Caroline then made an appearance predictably followed by an angry Vicky outburst. Tempers soothed we got on with things and Michelle really started to grow into her roll at CB. Emma was every-where but was then booked for kicking ball away and we had an angry Emma too 🤦‍♂️ Kirkers looking a £5 off you for getting booked for that. Dromara then had a sustained period of pressure but some great defending and a very good save from Jo stopping one from creeping into the top corner kept us in front. Victoria and Abbie again showed maturity beyond their years winning tackles and clearing their lines. With Vicky looking like the wheel barrow may be required down here again (if you know you know) she was removed for Laura. Katrina back to CB and Laura up top. It was almost an immediate impact when the ball fell to her left foot on edge of the box but unusually for her she scuffed her shot wide. Katrina added some strength and presence at the back and helped us steady a rocking ship. It was getting to that point were it was squeaky bum time as Dromara threw players forward in search of an equaliser.  But Jo having other ideas gathered the ball and launched it long down the pitch. Laura flicked it on and Kelly was away...... she showed great composer to tuck it away to make it 3-5 and seal a cracking comeback. Ref having listened to enough yapping especially from Kirker and turning down jelly tots as a bribe blew for full time. The local cows booed us off but Caroline was spotted with a twinkle in her eye for a particularly striking brown cow 🤣. Anyway a great result in very warm conditions and the girls will enjoy a drink after, I'm sure.

Craigavon

Ambassadors Ladies 1-4 22nd Ladies

A it of a trip to Craigavon to take on Ambassadors and this week and we were without our faithful Leader Kirker. He was washing his hair. Not to worry as Vicky and Jimmy stepped up to manage the team. Although taking a managerial role Angry Vicky may have had too make an appearance…

Ambassadors started strong, but Nicole was quick off her line and making herself big. Winning the ball but taking a knee to the face. With her busted lip she soldiered on. 10 mins later Ambassadors got their first goal.

Heads stayed up and with a whole team effort we continued to push forward. Kelly placed the ball perfectly and Caroline Crossett was through, she couldn’t miss and she didn’t! 1-1 we had evened the playing field before half time.

If Carlsberg did half time talks… it would have been this one! Tactics discussed and subs warmed up, we were ready to go back on.

Olivia completely took their Number 3 out of the game, stuck to her like glue and took the ball off her every time. A great ball placed by Tanya gave Courtney the perfect opportunity to get on score sheet, but wait Kelly comes out of nowhere and takes the shot. 2-1 22ndLadies!

We pressured the keeper and their back line continuously, causing them to make mistake and give away a free kick from a very scoreable 20 yard distance. Only one girl for it, the Captain Katrina Montgomery. She missed. She fired it straight at the face of an Ambassadors player, that will teach them for hurting my friends lip she quietly thought to herself.

Katrina quickly redeemed herself after a great ball over the top from Caroline she was in. She didn’t miss that time. 3-1

A ball disagreement was quickly settled by ‘Manager’ Vicky in a very cool, calm and collected way and play continued.

Ambassadors fought back, but the back four held their line and caught them offside. A tense moment when Nicole seemed to be stuck to the spot, watching the ball dribble along the line. Is it a bird, is it a plane… no its Super Abbie, who swooped in and saved the day.

Katrina’s next shot was saved by the keeper, only for her to spill the ball. Caroline quickly swiped it up and put it in the back of the net. 4-1

Charlotte battled in midfield until her tank was empty and bladder full, off to the bushes her went. Step up the Dark Destroyer, Emma! She had one job, sit in midfield and cause havoc. She did that for a solid 20 mins and the Ref blew his whistle for full time.

22nd Ladies 2-3 Greenisland Ladies

A much anticipated game against Greenisland kicked off in great conditions. Both sides started quite well but Greenisland edged the early exchanges. They targeted our left hand side and it was from there that they got the opening goal. The Greenisland player attempted a cross and sliced the ball and it dropped in over Nicole's head 1-0. We pushed to get back on level terms and Kelly through on goal blazed wide of near post. A nice through ball saw Greenisland through but Nicole off her line quickly made a great save diving at the forwards feet. Courtney was very instrumental in our early play but it became clear that there was space to be had on our right so she was swapped there and Charlotte moved inside to help protect the back four. Greenisland again in down their right and a cut back was put in the net 2-0. We kept battling with some strong tackles by both sides going in. We wasted another good chance to get one back by shooting straight at the Greenisland keeper. Sods law they went up the other end and grabbed a third just before halftime to put us really up against it. 3-0 Greenisland at halftime and a lot of work to do.

At halftime we talked about belief and had a slight change in formation going to a 433 with Courtney pushing right up on the right. Greenisland came out quickly and early doors they hit the bar. But we rallied and a speculative shot from Katrina squirmed past the keeper to make it 3-1. We brought on Jo to stop the targeting high shots against Nicole and Victoria to inject some more mobility in midfield. This worked a treat and we started to turn the screw. Greenisland couldn't get out and we started creating chances. Corner after corner went across and we just couldn't convert. Then from a corner plan Emma poked home the ball from close range to make it 3-2. We were really in business now and young Abbey at right back was superb, picking up the loose ball, beating her marker and driving forward. Victoria and Abbey linked up well and battled hard. We kept pushing and pushing and it only looked like a matter of time before we equalised. Katrina through, but unlike her lacking confidence she tried to cut across the defender and the chance was gone. We basically made camp in their box and kept the pressure on from corner after corner but unfortunately it just wasn't to be. We deserved a least a point but missed chances cost us badly in the end. But a real positive was our never say die attitude and the 2 young girls really proving they are ready to play at this level. Full time 3-2 defeat but we look forward to a trip to Ambassadors at Craigavon next week with a lot of confidence.

Ulidia
Rosario Ladies 8-0 22nd Ladies

Another visit to Ulidia with the team struggling with injuries. We got under way and straight away got on the front foot. Kelly race through and was bundled over in the box, looked a nailed on penalty but unbelievably the ref didn't give it. Horrendous decision but we just had to carry on. The game became more of a battle with both defences on top. Olivia making a couple of really strong tackles, developing into a proper strong player. Unfortunately after 30 mins Rosario got the break through after a couple of mistakes allowed them a simple finish, 1-0. They doubled their lead quickly after a fortunate defection and bounce saw their striker with a simple finish. We struggled with their pace but continued to battle to get back in the Game. A corner at the other end saw Kelly's effort scrambled clear off the line. A cross from the left was almost turned in by Joleen and a free kick from Olivia was well saved by Rosario keeper. Katrina had an effort fly just over, so we did have opportunities we unfortunately couldn't convert any. 2-0 HT.

Second half saw us come out conceded an early goal and the heads just dropped, 3-0. Jade flattened their striker in the box, penalty. Jo going to her left got a good hand on a powerful shot and was very unfortunate not to save it, 4-0. Rosario stepped up their game and to their credit put us to the sword running I another 3 to make it 7-0. But we started to play a bit of football and Victoria on in midfield combined with Joleen to get Kelly away. Through on goal she blasted wide. Katrina then got Kelly away again this time her shot was wide of the mark. At the other end some great never give up defending from Caroline kept the score down on several occasions. Rosario got an 8th to seal a comprehensive and deserved victory. But the was one more piece of skill of note. Katrina with red mist setting in was taken of for angry Vicky. She angrily broke forward and pulled off a very snazzy back heel. The ref witnessing this and fearing a 22nd comeback with that skill on the pitch blew the final whistle.

22nd Ladies 1-4 Antrim Rovers Ladies

A glorious evening at Clarendon saw us play our first home game of the season in front of the Niwfa cameras. The game started very evenly and we hit the post in the opening minutes. Very unfortunate not to fund the net, Antrim done the same moments later. Jade harshly booked for what looked like shoulder to shoulder strength and a free kick to Antrim in shooting distance. The ball was hit over the wall and destined for out bottom corner until Nicole dove across and made a super save tipping it round the post. Antrim started to get on top and we were struggling to get out. Our passing play from last week was missing and a bit of yapping creeping in partly due to a few strange refereeing decisions. About 30 mins in and have conceded a corner we didn't pick up our players. Ball was initially cleared but an Antrim player at the edge of the box ran onto to ball and smashed it home, 1-0 Antrim. We battled on through the half but never really looked like scoring.

We brought on young Abbie Martin for her senior debut and she settled in nicely on the wing. Antrim no.8 gave us problems all night and continued to hurt us with her pace. She broke through and doubled their lead, 2-0. Very quickly after a bit of a defensive howler Antrim got a third and it looked very rocky. But to girls credit they didn't give up when in the past they might have. We actually started to play a bit of football and started to pass the ball. Victoria came on and made her senior debut in Central midfield. Antrim added a fourth goal to wrap up the game. We made our final changes brining on Jo, Caroline and Laura. Jo very quickly off her line made a very good block. At the other end we nearly got through and things got a bit heated. A free kick awarded to the 22nd, Katrina in a conversation with ref, 30 yards out, took the roof off the net. Great strike and a goal we deserved. Having played the game with several players carrying knocks it was good to get no more injury news. All was left was for Gail force to give her usual interview to cameras. Bet you all about the 90mins will he mentioned. Final score 4-1 Antrim.

Belfast Ravens ll 0-8 22nd Ladies

We got back into league action with a trip to our friends Belfast Ravens. After a horrible morning the clouds parted and it turned into a lovely day. We arrived early, completed a very good warm up at a good tempo and the signs were very good.

When we got under way we started well but there were a few nerves and this was evident with a few poor early touches. We missed a couple of great chances, Kelly through twice couldn't convert, katrina hit the post and Scuttle was unlucky. Then it came, some nice play saw Scuttle through and she finished well past the keeper, 1-0. Minutes later we doubled the lead when Katrina slamed home a nice cut back to make it 2-0. Nerves disappeared and we controlled the game, Scuttle ran the show from midfield instrumental in everything. From a corner Ravens initially cleared the danger but Olivia had a great effort from 30 yards just wide. The back four after a few wee mix ups started to look very solid with Olivia joining in attacks down the left. Caroline and Joleen worked hard down either wing and helped put Ravens under a lot of pressure. Kelly after missing at least 300 chances🤣 found the net to make it 3-0. She then somehow managed to hit both posts, couldn't believe it so unlucky. Tanya after some expert advice from her brillant coach almost scored a corner with the keeper well off her line. Kelly then got her second or was it an own goal by the keeper 🤔 anyway she's claiming it, 4-0. Courtney saw a goal bound effort superbly saved by the Ravens keeper with her finger tips. Laura then came on to replace the injured Caroline. We kept pushing but couldn't find anymore goals before the break, 4-0 at half time.

At the break we talked about trying to bring the fullbacks into play as much as possible to add options to the attack. Keeping the tempo high and the importance of the next goal because we knew the Ravens wouldn't give up.

We started the second half strongly and with confidence both full backs got higher up the pitch and helped us maintain pressure. Olivia and Ashley both offered more options and created chances. We started creating more chances oh and yes missing them. We got the important goal when Katrina through on goal made no mistake and slotted the ball home to make it 5-0. It wasn't long before scuttle broke through and fired home to get her second and out 6th of the day. With 3 players on hat tricks would they get them ? Tanya who gave it her all was replaced by Charlotte in Central midfield. This added much needed energy and helped us turn the screw a bit. But yes you guessed it we missed more chances. At the other end Ravens got a free kick and from some 30 yards Nicole made her first save and held onto the ball well. Laura had the ball in the net twice but both ruled out for offside. Caroline Rainy on for Joleen making her competitive debut almost scored but just pulled her shot wide (babies were near threw in the air, don't ask 😂). Then eventually Kelly blasted home to get her well earned 3rd goal to make it 7-0. Caitlin was getting excited trying to get a goal and with a rush of blood blazed over (stick to centre back, you might have hair like Bale but that's were it ends😂). Courtney had a great chance to get her hat trick when she rounded the keeper and with the net at her mercy.....was distracted by the pesky seagull back to haunt her from Carrick and pulled her shot wide. It was left for Katrina to round things of by getting her 3rd. Great to see as she deserved it with a very good performance. Wonder what happened next oh yes we missed more chances 😂. The ref having enough decided that was that and a good team performance saw us with 3 points in our first game and something to build on. Even Kirker looked happy 😂

22nd Ladies 3-4 Belfast Ravens

In glorious sun shine we welcomed our friends Belfast Ravens and NIWFA TV to Clarendon. We started brightly breaking clear only to shoot wide. At the other end Gina saved before we broke clear again and again wasted the opportunity. Was this a sign of things to come ? We missed another great chance before Ravens broke down the left and slotted home, 1-0 Ravens. They were causing us problems down our left and some neat play by them saw Jade dive in and concede a penalty ! Ravens made no mistake 2-0. Britney's hair what is left of it, was being pulled out as at this stage we could of been 5-2 up. 22nd breaking through saw the ball laid back to Katrina who from 20 yards smashed one into the far corner, 2-1. Both sides looked a bit dodgy at the back and Ravens again down the right broke away to shoot past Gina, 3-1 Ravens. The Ravens looked dangerous going forward and gave 22nd defence a tough time. It took a good save from Gina to keep us in the game. The 2's were handed a life line when Kelly was brought down in the box, penalty! Kelly got up and smashed home the spot kick, 3-2. The rest of the half was a bit chaotic but the half finished 3-2 Ravens.

At half time we talked about the need to improve defensively and be more decisive going forward. We also needed to have someone properly sitting in midfield as we all wanted to attack.

We started brightly and Kelly latching onto a good through ball squeezed her shot by the Ravens keeper to make it 3-3. The game settled down a bit and turned into a bit of a grinding affair with both defences getting their act together. Famous last words as a defensive blunder gifted the Ravens their fourth to make it 4-3. We tried to turn the screw a bit but to be fair to the Ravens they defended well and try as we might we couldn't hit the target with our shooting. We kept dragging shots wide of the target. Try as we much as we did we just couldn't force the equaliser. Unfortunately right at the death Jade and Gina collided injuring each other, resulting in Jade being lifted of the pitch. Right to the end we tried but the Ravens seen our the game to claim the 3 points.

22nd Ladies 3-2 Dromara Village Ladies

Our first home match of this campaign saw us play Dromara in beautiful sunshine on a near perfect pitch at Clarendon. We started brightly and put some early pressure on Dromara. But they were always dangerous and especially down our left their right. Their no10 was very quick and tricky but the lobster was up for the challenge and repeatedly kept her at bay. Katrina broke away early and from an angle she tried to lay it off for Kelly.  Having talked about set plays before the game it was pleasing when Tanya delivered and Kelly thumped the ball home to put us 1-0 up. Kelly and Katrina both playing on the shoulder gave the Dromara back line quite a bit of trouble, but to be fair they defended the half way line very well. From a 22nd attack the ball was cleared and Jade picked it up and shot from some 25 yards. The ball bounced and evaded the Dromara keeper to find the net and make it 2-0. Fortunately the shirt did stay on though she did threaten 🙈. We almost went 3 up when Kelly picked the ball up and smashed a looping effort over the keeper only to see her effort rebound off the bar. The back 3 were superb, defending well and clearing their lines. Gina made some good sliding saves at the feet of the Dromara strikers to keep our lead intact. Scuttle done it simple in midfield, Tanya played some nice through balls and Joleen ran herself ragged breaking up the play. Caroline and Charlotte worked their socks off wide and put in great shifts. Just before the break Gina made a good save to keep us 2 up. HT 2-0 and thoroughly deserved.

Second half saw Tanya play a nice trough ball and Kelly hunted down the defender sliding past her to poke the ball beyond the Dromara keeper to make it 3-0. Great start to the half and the girls continued to press Dromara for a fourth. Unfortunately a lapse at the back saw their dangerous no10 through and she smashed home past Gina, 3-1 and things were gonna get interesting. We started to tire and to be fair Dromara took the initiative and pressed forward. We defended well and largely kept them at bay. Unfortunately we lost Scuttle to injury landing heavily on her shoulder to be replaced by off side Kaitlyn who you  guessed it was off side quite a lot 🤣 but done her share of work for the team. Caroline came off after running herself into the ground, feeling the worse for ware having been out most of the night. Laura came on and made an immediate impact helping clear her lines. Caitlyn taking one for the team brought down the Dromara no10 and got booked for her trouble. Up stepped the Dromara defender who absolutely smashed it toward Goal. Gina managed to deflect it onto the post but it was forced in by the Dromara striker, 3-2 and preferable squeaky bum time. A long ball sent Kelly away cutting in from the right she was through on goal but unfortunately the Dromara keeper managed to get a toe to the ball and deflected it wide. Ashley then took a bad one to the head and was removed for angry Vicky. A goal mouth scramble saw Gina make an absolute smashing save when the ball looked past her. We looked a very tired team and Jade carrying a knock took a heavy clatter. She tried to carry on but was in serious pain and had to come off. So down to 10 players in stoppage time we continued to battle and scrap. Katrina who went from centre forward, to Centre mid to, centre back helped steady the ship which was rocking badly lol. After the ref was tortured by both teams he blew the final whistle and we got a much needed 3 points and on the balance of play and chances deserved.

Camlough Rovers 12-1 22nd Ladies

Ladies set out on a long journey to Newry to play their second league game. We started quite poorly giving the ball away cheaply, not clearing our lines and in general not looking very interested. Camlough looked a good side and this proved to be the case as they raced into a 3-0 lead. With a poor 20 mins gone we started to get to grips with the game and created a few chances. Kaitlyn had a good effort well saved, Katina was unfortunate not to score, Kelly was unlucky from the bye line and Caroline just couldn't get the power in a shot after cutting inside. Nicole making her debut in goal made some good saves and her handling was impeccable. Unfortunately with 5 mins to go at the end of the first half we switched back off and Camlough ran smoke running in 4 more goals to go in at the break 7-0 up.

Half time saw Kirker crack a bit with the lack of effort, fight and spirit being showed. He asked the girls to stand up and be counted in the second half and show some team spirit and fight.

From the kick off we showed a bit more moving the ball and working harder. From a set play after a scramble Joleen smashed home to make it 7-1. We kept pushing and were unlucky not to score again. Tanya then tried to take a throw in to herself 🤣 and her blushes were relieved when ref told her to take it again. Nicole coming off her line made a superb diving save to her left. Minutes later she was off her line again diving at the strikers feet making another good save but unfortunately the ball just squeezed out of her fingers and the Camlough striker tapped into the empty net, 8-1. We brought on our subs Laura, Mollie and Sara who worked hard but with tiring legs and angry Vicky now angry on the side line Camlough knocked in another 4 and thoroughly deserved their victory. We will get to training this week work hard and prepare for next Sunday v Dromara Village for our first home game.

The Cliff, Larne

Larne Olympic Ladies 6-1 22nd Ladies

At last we are back to some proper competitive football. A 22nd team struggling with injuries and absentees travelled down to play a young Larne side on a horrible night. Covid sign ins done, comet sorted and we were ready to go.

Game kicked off and it was quite an even start on a very big pitch. Both sides probed a bit but defences were on top in the early stages. Lobster and Olivia looked solid and Charlottee settled in well at right back making her debut. Larne took the lead when their left winger cut inside to shoot past Gina, 1-0 Larne. We battled away and Kelly shot wide. Minutes later Katrina up to head the ball, bang clash of heads. Although let's be honest nothing in there to hurt it was swelling at an alarming rate so no choice but to replace her. Larne the  got what looked like a suspiciously off side goal to make it 2-0. Now we could have crumbled but we kept going. Joleen battling down the right never have up and a neat pass found Kelly who went on a run before smashing home from the edge of the box, 2-1 and a cracking debut goal. Both sides huffed and puffed to half time without any real efforts on target. 2-1 Larne HT.

Second half saw 22nd with another injury, off side Kaitlyn coming off with a groin injury. On went the late arriving scuttle. We started brightly with some nice feet from scuttle who most got through. Lobster and Olivia stayed solid and Jade battled away in front of them. Larne striker picked up the ball and fired a shot at goal from 20 yards. It was moving wickedly but Gina stuck out a strong left hand to make a good save. Unfortunately Lobster got her feet tangled and the larne striker went through and scored to make it 3-1. 2's kept working and win a corner. Tanya whipped it in and how we didn't score is beyond me. But credit must go to Larne defender who made the block on the line. We then stated to tire on the big pitch and Larne knocked the ball about well started to dominate. Sara came on to make her debut for Laura. Young Mollie on for Charlotte who had done very well at full back. Both players came on and done very well but Latme ran in another 2 before a cracking strike from 20 yards made it 6-1. Nicole came on late in the day as Lobster chipped a claw. Yes another injury. Not the result we had wanted obviously but it was great to get back playing the sport we all love.

22nd Ladies 2-10 St Oliver Plunkett Ladies

Our last Futsal game of the year saw us start quite well. We defended well and caused a few problems for SOPFC going forward. Jo made a couple of good saves to keep us level before SOPFC scored to good quick goals to go 2-0 up. We kept working hard and creating the odd half chance. SOPFC got a third before some nice play by Caitlin whis shot hit the post. Caroline Crosset was on hand to slam the ball home to make it 3-1. Jo made a couple of good saves and Jade some good strong challenges to keep the score 3-1 at the break.

Second half saw SOPFC come out and knock in another 3 goals to make it 6-1. Though the score line was tough to take the Ladies really seemed to enjoy the game and their manager certainly did. SOPFC got another 2 goals before a unicorn was sighted ! The ginger Mo Salah burst through the middle of the SOPFC defence and smashed the ball in for her first ever competitive goal ! Well done Vicky take a bow but we may have to have ur tie surgery removed from the ball 😂. 8-2 and Gina made up for an earlier blunder with a great save. Unfortunately SOPFC ran out 10-2 winners but the game was throughly enjoyed by our lot. Even Caroline Rainey having to be subbed off as she needed a pee 😂. She will fit in well here 😂

22nd Ladies 7-4 Queens Ladies

Ladies returned to Futsal and started brightly when Olivia put us 1-0 up. Queens keeper made some good saves from Courtney and Jo making a couple of good stops before the Katrina show. She fired us 2-0 through the keepers legs. Queens got back on terms with 2 quick goals when we feel asleep a bit. Katrina put us 3-2 up with a neat finish after some nice link up play with Caroline making her debut. Angry Vicky returned from injury angry at everyone, some things never change 😂. Ash and Tinder made some good tackles to keep us in front but unfortunately before the break Queens equalised. 3-3 half time.

Second half we started well and Katrina put us 4-3 up with another good finish. She then fired in again to make it 5-3 and make us comfortable. We worked very hard and Courtney was very unlucky not to get a goal. At the other end Gina made 2 very good saves to keep our lead intact. With angry Vicky back on the leash, struggling with chest, we worked very hard and were rewarded with an own goal to pit us 6-3 up. Everyone was starting to tire put we kept rotating players on and off  Caroline admitting defeat after a good debut, Tinder stepping in and helped us defend our lead. Queens pulled 1 back when they eventually beat the impressive Gina to make it 6-4. But the Katrina show came to a close when she netted her 5th and our 7th to make sure of the win.  She was punctuated and was replaced before she collapsed. We saw out the game to claim our first win in this years Futsal. Well deserved and great start to 2020 ladies !

22nd Ladies 1-10 Foyle Belles

Ladies went into their last futsal game of the calendar year v Foyle. Both teams started well moving the ball nicely. Unfortunately 2 errors saw the Belles go 2-0 up. Gina was called into action making 2 very good saves before the Belles beat her to go 3 up. We kept to our plan and continued to pass the ball well and we got our reward when Ashley smashed the ball home from distance, 3-1. Scuttle and Tanya both saw shots saved or wide before Foyle ran in 3 more before the break, 6-1 at half time.

The second half saw us start well and passing the ball nicely again. A free kick in a dangerous position was dragged wide by Scuttle. We continued to try and pass the ball but Foyles youth and fitness began to tell. Gina made a cracking save before they eventually beat her to make it 7-1. They ran in 3 more goals against a tiring 22nd team to complete a comfortable 10-1 victory.

22nd Ladies 1-11 Larne Ladies

The ladies started of sluggish and were punished very quickly going 2-0 down I  the opening minutes. After we squeezed them we forced an error leading to a corner, Caitlin smashed it across and it was turned into the Larne net by one of their defenders, 2-1. Unfortunately Larne struck again to make it 3-1 and Jo was forced into a couple of good saves to keep us in touch. But as much as we tried to press them they moved the ball very well scoring a 4th and a 5th. Just before the half Olivia was unfortunate with a free kick. We finished the half 5-1 down.

Second half saw us try and pass the ball more and be more proactive from the back. Unfortunately this got us caught sometimes and we found ourselves 7-1 down. Gina made 3 or 4 very good saves and was unfortunate when she made a good double save only to see the ball fall to a larne player to tap in to make it 8. At the other end a cross saw Sam use her impressive chest to deflect it unfortunately onto the post. Angry Vicky was hopping up and down on side line wanting on but with only 1 good knee, no chance! Larne capitalised on us tiring and fired in 3 more goals and were deserved 11-1 winners.

Shamrock Ladies 8-2 22nd Ladies

Our last league fixture of the season saw us travel to our nearest rivals Shamrock. Both teams started off well but it was Shamrock who took an early lead from a well worked goal. They doubled their lead minutes later with a nice finish from distance, 2-0. Kerri was sent clear but with the ball drifting onto her left side she shot just wide. A mix up with Jo not sure if it was a back pass or not saw her pass to a Shamrock player who shot home 3-0. Kerri was sent clear again but this time under enormous pressure and again on her weak side she shot narrowly wide. Katrina fired a free kick in from distance which the Shsmrock keeper just about managed to save. Just before the break Shamrock made it 4 when we failed to clear a corner. Half time arrived with the 2's in a perilous position and a monumental effort would be required to get back in the game.

The Ladies started brightly but some poor defending saw Shamrock gifted a 5th which knocked the stuffing outta our girls. Then Tanya got kicked and got highly enjoyed using a few choice words 🙈 she got up and stuck the free kick into the far top corner, 5-1. The 22nd got another goal from a set play. This time Tanya turned provider by floating in a corner for Katrina to head home, 5-2 comeback? That wasnt to be. As Shamrock added 3 more goals to their tally with Gina making a very good save in the middle of these. The Ladies battled onto the end but just couldn't get anymore goals. So our 3rd season came to an end and it remains to be seen if we stay up or not. All in the hands of the league.

Craigavon Ladies 7-2 22nd Ladies

Our last of our distance away games saw us travel to Craigavon by mini bus. The ladies were in good spirits as we were all having a much needed wee night out. The weather wasnt great but the rain managed to hold off.

Both teams started by showing their attacking intent. 22nd manager quickly identified the Craigavon no10 as the danger woman and told midfield to get as tight as they could on her. DOD they listen ? Of course not ! A corner cleared and she was at hand some 20 yards out with time to set herself and fire a great hit over Gina into the roof of the net, 1-0 Craigavon. The ladies knocked down and some good play saw the 2's win a penalty through hand ball. Up stepped club top scorer Sam to coolly slot home to equalise, 1-1. Craigavon pressed the 2's back and retook the lead when yes you guessed it the no10 in space shot home again over Gina, 2-1 Craigavon. You would think they would learn but oh no. Minutes later the no10 again free made it 3-1. Kirker cracked at this point and put Jade on to man mark her. We pressed to try and get back in the game and were unfortunate with a few long range efforts. The ladies battled away to the half without anymore incidents of note.

Second half started quite even with both sides pushing as the next goal would be crucial. Unfortunately it went to Craigavon who scored direct from a corner, 4-1 this knocked the Ladies a bit. The game started to get stretched and Tanya full of battered sausages was finding the going tough in midfield. Try not swallowing them whole next time 😂🙈. Craigavon added a fifth which was a great finish but again could have been avoided. The Ladies to their credit didnt give up and kept battling. Sam was sent clear but with her right side seemingly heavier than her left she kept drifting right and the angle became to tight. She did win a corner for the 2's which was delivered superbly by the battered sausage. Up kept Jade and smashed an unstoppable header into the far top corner, 5-2. Now this was dodgy territory as she has previous for whipping her top off 🙈 everyone waited with bated breath and sure enough down came the shorts 😂 team is mental. The ladies really started to tire and Craigavon knocked in another two to round of a convincing win. The 22nd now face a real possibility of relegation and must win their last game v Shamrock to stay up.

22nd Ladies 1-2 Kilmore Rec Ladies

The ladies prepared to face Kilmore in their final home game of the season hoping for 3 points which would guarantee survival in Div 3. Both teams started quite well and the game became a bit of a battle in midfield. Neither side created any opportunities early on with defences ontop. The 2's took the lead when Tanya seeing Sam in space on the right picked her out with a cross field ball. Sam took the ball down, beat her marker and swung the ball into the far corner beyond the Kilmore keeper, 1-0 22nd. The lead didn't last long as Kilmore struck back when  Olive passed inside and the Kilmore striker robbed us and chipped Jo to equalise, 1-1. Minutes later a mistake saw procession turned over and again the same Kilmore striker smashed the ball over Jo from 20 yards to put Kilmore infront, 2-1. The 2's rallied and pressed for an equaliser before the break. We were presented with a golden opportunity when a Kilmore defender was adjudged to have handled the ball in the box, penalty ! After some deliberation Tanya stepped up...... and smashed the penalty off the bar. Terrible penalty is now under a life time penalty ban. Both sides pressed to try and get another goal before the break but neither could find a way past the defences, 2-1 HT to Kilmore Rec.

Second half saw the 22nd under a bit of early pressure but they weathered the storm, defending well. We just couldn't break out enough and hold onto the ball at the same time. Tanya had a great opportunity to equalise but couldn't get the ball onto her left foot fast enough to convert the chance. As time wore on changes were made with the 22nd sacrificing a centre back to add a 3rd striker to try and get that equaliser. Danielle came on in midfield and showed some lovely touches and kept the ball well for us which gave us a better platform to attack. The 22nd piled on the pressure towards the end of the game but credit to Kilmore they defended superbly and kept us out. The game finished in a disappointing defeat but the Ladies should be proud of their performance and were very unlucky not to come away with a point.

St Oliver Plunkett Ladies 17-0 22nd Ladies

A very weak 22nd team headed to Sally Gardens to play the league leaders in which was always going to be a difficult night. The ladies took to the pitch with 7 regulars missing and our keeper playing at right back ! But the show must go on. SOPFC started strong and didnt stop throughout the first half scoring 10 goals much of which could have been stopped but for a really poor performance from the Ladies. SOPFC did score some good goals and passed the ball very well to their credit.

Second half followed much the same pattern but credit to our Ladies they kept going. What was more disappointing was the fact the opposition continued to try and score as many as possible against a clearly beaten side. SOPFC ran in another 7 goals to take their tally to 17 for the night. A very disappointing night came to a close and our heaviest defeat to date. But we will dust ourselves down and go again against Kilmore Rec on the 1st August.

Quarter-final
The Hammer
22nd Ladies 4-4 Craigavon Ladies
Craigavon won 5-4 on penalties

A very damp night saw the Ladies play their cup game at home. With 9 players missing through various reasons the ladies coming in stepped up. Starting with the KKK up front. No not the ones with pointy hoods but Katrina, Kaitlyn and Kerri. Craigavon started well and had an early goal chalked off for off side. Craigavon took the lead early on when they punished some poor defending, 1-0 Craigavon. Within minutes Craigavon were 2 up when a speculative shot slipped between Jo's legs and into the net. After Eli you would have thought Jo would stop letting things slip between her legs 😂🙈.
This seemed to spur the Ladies on and Caitlin chasing a through ball tried to beat the keeper from distance. The ball was rolling wide when one of the Craigavon defenders slid it into the net to bring us back into it at 2-1. At the back the 4 defenders really got ontop of their game and looked very solid. Jo was quick of her line and mopped up anything that came through superbly. Sam having hurt her ribs again (S&M😂) had to get bandaged up to continue. Tanya then picked the ball up in midfield and sent a great ball through. Katrina raced clear, rounded the keeper and fired the ball calmly into the unguarded net, 2-2. Both teams looked to go ahead and pressed for a goal. But the half free to a close and finished 2-2. Kerri breaking through on the right almost got her shot away at goal but just couldn't wrap her foot round the ball

At half time we talked about being strong and and resolute at the back, pressing hard in midfield and taking our chances in attack. Craigavon started brightly but the Ladies weathered the storm defending superbly. Jo making a diving save to her right, Jade and Ash winning tackle after tackle. Both full backs pressed their wingers and defended superbly. After a period of defending we suddenly broke free, Sam raced clear on goal, shot and saw her effort hit the far post (so unlucky). At the other end a corner from Craigavon saw Tanya and Leanna get in a bit of a muddle and the ball drifted into the goal straight from the corner.
Again we battled back another through ball released Katrina who raced clear from half way, she composed herself then tried to dink the keeper, slicing the ball horribly wide. Craigavon looked very dangerous on the break but we didnt stop pressing. 22nd got a free kick on right hand side perfect for Tanya's left foot you'd think. Up she stepped and hit the second worse free kick in history🙈 only her previous one v Banbridge was worse😂. Kaitlyn was finding some freedom down the left and this looked our most likely Avenue for a goal. A foul on the left gave us another opportunity, Tanya I think was scared to come near it as Kirker stood armed with a water bootle had she come anywhere near it😂.
A piece of managerial brilliance only surpassed by the likes of Klopp. He told Katrina to wack it into the far top corner ! What did Katrina do ? Bang far top corner ! Queue such scenes, yeoooo 😂. Craigavon gathered themselves and attacked the 22nd again. But a game changing incident saw the referee emptied in middle of the pitch by Danielle the silent assassin. With 2 minutes remaining she had to be replaced by a watching referee. There was just time to see Ashley decide tou know what I dont fancy extra time and send a header towards her own goal. But Jo to the rescue throwing herself into a Karma Sutra type move to tip the ball behind, what a save kid take a bow. Full time 3-3 what a game could extra time live up.

Craigavon started strongly and retook the lead with a great finish into the near top corner, 4-3 Craigavon. The Ladies battled on and the game swung from end to end. 22nd have to change carrot head Caitlin as she was having withdrawal from love island. This saw Tinder enter the fray and pushed Jade into midfield. We couldn't force an equalizer.

Second period started with the 2's showing a super team spirit and battled to try and grab a goal. The ladies got their reward when patched up Sam turned in the box and hooked a shot past the keeper into the far corner, 4-4 wow what a game. Both teams pressed for a winner but time ran out, que dreaded penalties.

Bellsbridge Dromara
Dromara Village Ladies 3-5 22nd Ladies

After a couple of heavy defeats the Ladies went on the road to play Dromara with a few players missing through injury or Benidorm blues.

The ladies started the stronger of the two sides but the game became embroiled in a midfield battle. Dromara came close when a couple of dangerous crosses weren't converted and Jo making a great save to her left. Carly had to be replaced after her back injury flared up again, being replaced by Claire. The 2's always dangerous with Sam and Katrina going forward.
A nice ball split the Dromara defence, which saw Katrina run through and finish well to put the Ladies 1-0 up. Jade playing in front of the defence won some important tackles and broke up the play. We pressed on and Katrina was released again only for a heavy touch to allow the keeper to close the angle and save well. Minutes later Tanya broke free in the inside left channel only to blaze over. We really need to take those chances. Katrina looked to have broken through again but was hauled down. The 2's got a free kick in a dangerous position, which Tanya was allowed to take without fear of getting hit with a water bottle 😂. She stepped up and curled the shot narrowly over the cross bar. All 22nd and a but of laziness from our strikers not getting back onside cost us a few chances (Sam thought she was still on beach). Then wouldn't you know it having had the lions share Dromara equalise when Olivia got pulled out to cover midfield, 1-1.
The 2-1 Dromara when we didnt clear properly left the talented and witty 22nd coach pulling out his flowing locks 😡. Half time arrived and neither side could force another goal.

Second half started after some encouraging words and a few home truths. Dromara started strong looking to try and finish off the 22nd but the defence stood strong. Olivia and Ashley battled away clearing their lines while angry Vicky appeared mixing it when she had to. But the pendulum swung and some nice play saw Sam absolutely smash a finish past the Dromara keeper to equalise, 2-2. What occurred next will go down in 22nd history. All of a sudden Kateina bolted from the pitch like her life depended on it ! Why what was going on ? Turned out she couldn't hold it any longer 🙈 and bolted for a toilet break (we will leave it at that).
Down to 10 the ladies battled on for 10 minutes and held their own. Eventually, a much lighter Katrina arrived back on the pitch and she gain an extra yard of pace. Subsequently playing a part in Sam finishing from close range to make it 3-2 22nd.
Minutes later Katrina picked the ball up on the left cut inside and curled a shot over the keeper into the far top corner, 4-2 22nd. Great finish to give us some day light. Sam then got her Hat-trick hunting down the Dromara centre back and keeper. She forced the error and calmly finished, 5-2 22nd. You would that would be that but no, angry Vicky went down with a serious knee injury and had to be replaced by Tinder. Jade playing her first game of the year was dropped back to make 4 centre backs to see put the game. But Dromara never gave up and grabbed a third to give themselves a glimmer of hope. But the 22nd defence stood firm and saw out the game, 5-3 22nd and another 3 points closer to safety.

22nd Ladies 1-8 Banbridge Ladies.

The ladies returned to league action hosting Banbridge at the Hammer and welcoming back Katrina from her 7 week exile.

We started poorly and continued in that fashion right through the half. Mistake after mistake littered our play with very little positive to take from our display. We simply couldn't deal with the direct long ball and couple that with individual errors saw us ho 3 goals down very quickly. Though when we did break forward we did look dangerous with Caitlin almost grabbing a goal back. Banbridge proved far to strong going forward with only Vicky standing up to their physical striker. But alone she couldn't stem the flow and before the half they ran in 4 more goals to make it 7 at half time. A half to truly forget.

Half time saw Kirker lose his mind and what was left of his hair. The ladies got a proper roasting, told to man up and show some pride. The only positive thing was the second half couldn't be as bad ! Or could it ?

The ladies started a lot brighter and played some nice football. Scuttle, Caitlin, Katrina and Bex played some nice triangles. The Banbridge defence was equal to the task and kept us at bay. Some nice play released Katrina who found her stride, bursting past the last defender to fire home into the far corner to give us a consolation goal, 1-7. The girls kept battling through the now torrential rain and the introduction of Olivia for battle weary angry Vicky helped secure the back four. Unfortunately for us the ref gave Banbridge a penalty for hand ball. Jo diving to her right got a gand to it but couldn't keep it out. Yes I did say diving ! Maybe because her boy was watching she upped her game a bit 😂. Or was it because someone from the crowd shouted jump on it like it was Mick 🙈.
Sam now playing on the right caused Banbridge problems, a great run and cross saw Katrina head just over from 12 yards out. Holly made her debut in CM and done very well winning some good tackles and clearing one off the line. The game drew to a close with a much better second half than the first. Hopefully we can take it into our game next week v Dromara.

NIWFA Super Cup 2nd round
Assumption School

Ballynahinch Ladies 8-1 22nd Ladies

We travelling to face Division 1 side Ballynahinch in the super cup. We have a great relationship with Ballynahinch but that would be put to one side while the game played. The girls started well in bright sunshine and for first 10 minutes held their own against a strong side. A spell of 20minutes saw Ballynahinch take control and completely dominate the game. They broke through the middle twice in quick succession, finishing well both times, 2-0. With minutes they added two more good finishes from distance to make it 4-0 and things were looking very bleak indeed. Nicole coming back from a long injury lay off did well in nets making a couple of decent saves.
The ladies conceded a 5th but something stirred in them and the last 10 minutes of the first half they battled back into the game. They created a few half chances from corners and almost got Kaitlyn and Scuttle through. The 3 at the back, Vicky, Olivia and Ashley battled hard. Danielle never stopped chasing up front and Scuttle cried but worked her socks off in midfield along with Caitlin (who's face matched our red kit, sun beds 😂).
The 2's got a free kick some 25yards out and with Kirker threatening to brain Tanya with a water bottle she got the message and let Ashley hit it. Unfortunately her shot flew wide of the far post. They finally got their reward when Scuttle set up Tanya who chipped the keeper from 20 yards, great finish 5-1. The Ladies battled away to the break and showed superb character not to crumble,5-1 HT.

Second half saw the Ladies come out and continue their hard work. Gina replacing Nicole in nets at the start of the half. They worked all over the pitch to stop Ballynahinch playing and still tried to get something on the break. Danielle up top worked her socks off never stopping and McCoubrey flashing across a couple of good crosses. The 22nd were forced into changes with keeper Bill-jo playing right wing back and she was clearly delighted with her contributions 😂. Rebekah moved to CM as Scuttle couldn't remove jewellery 🙈. Ballynahinch eventually found a 6th and 7th goal in quick succession. Ashley feel awarkardly and her her head to be replaced by Katelyn. From the resulting restart Ballynahinch scored an absolute smashing goal into the far top corner to round off a comprehensive victory and progress into the 3rd round of the Super Cup. While we were well beaten the pleasing thing for us was the manor in which we conducted ourselves and we never gave up.

22nd Ladies 2-1 Dromara Village Ladies

Following a hefty defeat, the week previous the Ladies were determined to gain these vital 3 points from a Home game against Dromora Village.
In keeping with recent formation and with Alannah returning from injury the Ladies defended with three at the back, three in midfield, two wings and two up top.
The first half started slow, Leanna defending the left wing and Chloe creating chances from the right but our strikers were unlucky not the find the back of the net. We continued to create chances but a mixture of back luck and poor finishing denied the 2's a deserved goal.
With the game still 0-0 after half time, some tactical changes were made by the ‘Temporary’ (but much better looking) Manager Vicky who noticed a height gap in midfield. In steps Claire, switching Sam with her speed and legs for days onto the wing. Those extra inches certainty did matter as Claire won everything in the air.

A change made up top seen Kaitlyn McCoubrey, come on, stay on side and in under less of a minute blast Caitlyn’s deflection into the back of the net with those fresh legs.
With a lift in spirt the tempo quickly lifted too, as Tanya noticed a weak spot in Dromora defence of the left (her favourite side) wing. She skint the winger with those Happy Feet and ran down that wing faster than Forest Gump to deliver a precision pass to Sam. The ball crossed into the box, but McCoubrey shot wide this time, but at least was on side.
The girls needed another goal to cement their win, and that came in the 80th min of the game. Just when you thought the ladies had nothing left to give, Courtney ‘Scuttle’ Hughes pressed hard and drove through two defenders to slot the ball past the keeper at the near post. 2-0 to the 22nd Ladies!
A small issue with communication involving two of the loudest players on the team created a goal scoring chance for Dromora, who pinged the ball into our net from a corner in the 85th min. However, the girls kept their head up and continued to battle until the final whistle and earning 3 more points this season.

Banbridge Ladies 5-0 22nd Ladies

The ladies having a few players missing travelled to Banbridge looking to put last weeks poor performance behind us. The game kicked off and Banbridge were quickly on the front foot putting the 22nd defence under pressure. The ladies hung on and battled hard with Carly and Sam working in midfield and Olivia tackling everything that came near her. Unfortunately the Banbridge forward hot clear and chipped Gina to make it 1-0. Minutes later a carbon copy goal saw it 2-0. The 2,s responded and Sam burst clear, she shot and the keeper made the save. But it fell kindly to Leanna who looked to get her first ever goal but she wanted the extra touch and among the confusion a Bandbridge defender took a bang to the head and the ref stopped play. The chance was gone and as you would have it bandbridge went straight down the other end and the striker got a third smashing the ball by Gina, 3-0. 22nd manager was glad to see the half time interval to he talked to the ladies and iron out a few problems.

Second half started better with the ladies working harder. Carly tireless in midfield and Olivia strong at the back. Angry Vicky had threatened to come out a few times but the monster was kept in check 🙈. Unfortunately for her she took a blow to the face from point blank range hitting the deck. She got to her feet stra6away but went down again. Unbelievably play continued and Banbridge scored their forth from this which left a bit of a sour taste. Vicky was removed from the pitch a bit groggy and we reshuffled a bit. The ladies battled on and tried to get back in the game but Banbridge were very strong in defence. At the other end Oliva made a couple of great tackles and Gina made an important save. Something that is pleasing this year even in defeat the ladies dont stop working and battle to the end. Banbridge managed a 5th goal towards the end and ran out the game worthy winners, 5-0.

22nd Ladies 0-4 St Oliver Plunkett Ladies

The ladies were at home this week after their triumphant travels last week. So with confidence high they were chomping at the bit for this game. We started very well and Caitlin broke free within the first few minutes. As she pulled the trigger the defender got the slightest touch which sent it narrowly wide. SOPFC went straight down the other end and hit the cross bar from the edge of the box. SOPFC then had a goal ruled out for offside as their player was on the line when she forced it home. Both teams went end to end with SOPFC playi6the better football. They took the lead when Ko misjudged a speculative shot from distance which crept in, 1-0. The ladies battled on and forced a couple of corners which were defended well. The lead was doubled when poor marking at a corner led to a free header and the ball in the back of the 22nd net, 2-0. With 22nd manager getting balder by the second (if that's possible) due to 22nds poor performance, a complete contrast from last week. Credit must go to SOPFC who were very good and always looked dangerous. The Ladies fortunately didn't concede anymore before the half and came in 2-0 down.

At this point Kirker asked all kids to leave the area around the team talk. He then proceeded to hit the roof, telling a few home truths in the hope of a reaction from the lack luster players. 22nd were forced into a change when Kenzi came off for Vicky.

The second half started with Carly working her socks on midfield and Olivia battling hard at the back along with, yip you guessed it angry Vicky was loose. With SOPFC over running the 22nd midfield the defence had to work really hard. But at least this half the 2's were making a fist of it and showing some desire. Unfortunately Jo must have been day dreaming when a shot from distance went through her to make it 3-0. Probably thinking about things she shouldn't and she should know better as these thoughts lead to bumps I mean problems 😂. SOPFC added a fourth when the 2's were caught out badly organised after an injury to Ashley. Shortly after that a nice move saw scuttle thread a ball through to Caitlin who through on goal went to take her shot early but unfortunately blazed over. With Gina in nets for Jo she made a couple of decent saves to save 22nd blushes and the game finished 4-0. A poor result and a poor display from the ladies. Onto next week when we travel to Banbridge.

Kilmore Rec Ladies 1-2 22nd Ladies

Our first away game saw us travel away to Kilmore Rec at Crossgar. The ladies started well putting Kilmore under some early pressure but their very quick CB kept coming to the rescue. An early through ball looked to have sent scuttle clear but the ref brought her back for offside. At the other end the 22nd looked secure and in control. Tanya found Sam from a corner but her header was just wide. Jo then made a decent save at the other end. The hane became end to end but with neither team breaking through the others defence. Kilmore wiped in a dangerous free kick which Jo managed to push away from their striker. We countered straight away with Chloe beating two players down the left before laying of to Caitlin. She won a 50 50 with kilmores CB before composing her self and firing the ball into the bottom corner, 1-0 22nd. It didnt last long as from a long throw Kensie was adjudged to have pushed the Kilmore player in our box resulting in a penalty. Their striker scored to level it at 1-1. The girls kept the head and took the game to Kilmore winning a corner. Tanya whipped it in and Sam rose to head into the top corner, 2-1 22nd and a cracking finish. All that heading practice paying off. Both teams battled away to the half without and more incidents of note.

Second half started with Kilmore on the front foot and Jo being tested more than once but being equal to the task. We struggled to hold the ball up and it kept coming back at us but Olivia, Ashley and Alannah stopped everything that was threw at them. Unfortunately Alannah had to be replaced by Vicky having hurt her groin. Angry Vicky lived up to her name getting involved with Kilmore players and the ref. Still kilmore came and still we defended superbly. 22nd made some changes to freshen up those tired legs and it was one of these that nearly wrapped up the game. Kaitlyn found herself threw at a tight angle, she pulled the trigger but unfortunately her gosl bound shot was blocked. At the other end Kilmore got a free kick in a dangerous position. The centre midfielder stepped up and grazed the top of the 22nd bar, phwwww it looked like it was flying in. Time was ticking away and Kilmore won a corner in the dying seconds. It was swung in superbly only to be glanced narrowly wide of the 22nd goal. The ref blew full time on an entertaining game giving us are first victory of the campaign.

22nd Ladies 2-4 Craigavon Ladies

With Brian unable to get up to cut the pitch and the council not bothering the grass was long in places. This would no doubt effect the game. The game started with the 2's on the front foot trying to force an opening. But the 22nd were struggling to hold onto the ball in attack resulting in Craigavon pinning us back for long periods. Through this time Olivia, Alannah and Ashley held firm. Danielle cleared not one but two goal bound efforts of the 22nd line from set plays. As the half wore on the 22nd kept out Craigavon and almost grabbed a goal when Sam through on keeper took a heavy touch allowing the keeper to block her shot. The keeper just managed to gather the rebound before Chloe could strike. Eventually all the Craigavon pressure paid off and a long run by the no7 saw her play a lovely diagonal ball in behind the 22nd defence. The right winger ran onto it and finished past Jo into the far corner, 1-0 Craigavon. Carly and Sam worked their socks off in centre midfield to try and get us back in the game but the Craigavon defence held firm. Craigavon thought they were about to get a second but their striker shot straight at Jo who saved comfortably. The half drew to a close with Craigavon 1 up and on balance of play deserving it.

The second have saw a Craigavon shot not felt with properly by Jo and their striker bundled it home. Not like Jo to drop balls, 2-0 Craigavon. This really dented the 22nd confidence  you could physically see the heads drop. But credit to the Ladies they battled on and Sam got us back in it when she found herself through and finished well into the far corner, 2-1 and back in it. 22nd pushed on now and for the first time in the game looked the more likely to score. But push as we did we couldn't find an opening. Craigavon started to play on the break and grabbed a third when Danielle after her heroics in the first have trying to block a shot managed to deflect the shot past Jo, 3-1 Craigavon. Again the 2's rallied and with Sam up top causing problems with Caitlin, the Craigavon keeper was stranded and the ball fell to Tanya. Who from 30 odd yards steadied herself and chipped the keeper to bring the girls back into it, 3-2. We pushed for an equaliser and the 22nd manager throwing caution to the wind pushed on his wing back on the right to try and force the issue. But unfortunately a tiring 22nd defence got caught and in the firing moments Craigavon got the forth to clinch the points firing across Jo into the far corner, 4-2 Craigavon. The ref having had enough of a good entertaining game blew his whistle and brought the game to a close.

22nd Ladies 1-6 Shamrock Ladies

Well the time has come for the first league game of the season for the ladies. After being suitably threatened to win the game after manager Kirker had cut, rolled and marked pitch that day. If all his efforts were in vain then they would pay at training 😈.

The ladies kicked off and started strongly by putting Shamrock off their stride. The game was quite even and Jo was called to make a good save sticking out her right foot to deflect a shot wide. At the other end a good through ball found Kerri through on goal but unfortunately her powerful shot was straight at the Shamrock keeper. Shamrock started to press the 2's and Jo raced off her line to force the Shamrock striker to snatch at her shot which Ashley cleared away. Jo took a kick to avery sensitive spot in this action to which someone was hear say thatll stop anymore babies fir a while. Jo then made a great diving save to her right to keep the scores level. As the half wore on Shamrock were growing frustrated and the 2's were growing in confidence, Carly was everywhere in midfield while Tanya boaked her guts up (what was she eating 👀). The back 3 looked solid and the wing backs were doing a super job pegging back the Shamrock wingers. Unfortunately a dodgy looking offside allowed the Shamrock striker to break free and chip the stranded Bill-Jo, 1-0 Shamrock. The girls battled on and Kerri won a free kick in a dangerous position. Up stepped Tanya (manger was overheard shes the one she will pick out the top bag) to hit the promising set play....but wait she spotted a squirrel in the trees 40 foot about the goal and tried to kill it ! Manager with a red face and possibly the worse free kick in history ! The game flowed back and forth with Jo making another save deflecting a goal bound effort behind for a corner. Shamrock swung in a great corner just under the bar and their Centre back nodded it home, 2-0 Shamrock. The girls battled away to the half and were unfortunate not to get a goal back.

The girls were told at half time more of the same keep battling, fighting and believe in yourselves and theres a result to be had. Also to look out for the keeper as she was always off her line and to try and dip her.

They started sluggish but got into it and again the game was pretty even afair. Unfortunately Shamrock nicked a goal when we switched off a bit to make it 3-0. Young Caitlin making her debut looked Sharpe in midfield and when the Shamrock keeper sliced a clearance to her whole out of her area Caitlin went for it. Her goal bound shot took a deflection and wrong footed the keeper to finish up in the net, 3-1. This lifted the 22nd and they continued to work hard none more so than the 2 wing backs and Carly who was everywhere. The 2's continued to defend stubbornly with Alannah, Ashley and Olivia defending very well. Shamrock broke through on the left and Jo diving to her left made a super one handed save to keep the 2's in the game. But Shamrock got another when Jo got distracted looking at some big lad and misjudged the bounce to gift Shamrock their fourth. Some poor defending for the first time in the game allowed Shamrock to tap home a 5th. Kirker took pitty on Tanya withdrawing her before there was any more boaking on his beautifully cut pitch. Caitlin then had to be withdrawn because of injury and Sam because she was knackered (needs to learn to suck it up better). Shamrock got in down the left again and a good finish in the far corner made it 6 for the night for Shamrock. Shamrock deserved their victory but 22nd can take a lot of positives out of tonight especially with so many new players to the game performing so well.

22nd Ladies 6-6 Shamrock Ladies
22nd win 6-5 on penalties

The 22nd turned up to play a very strong Shamrock team for 3rd/4th place in IFA Futsal Plate. The game started at a high pace with both teams working very hard. Shamrock took the lead when a speculative shit creeped in, 1-0 Shamrock. To the Ladies credit they battled hard and got themselves level when Ashley curled a a lovely shot into the far corner, 1-1. Within minutes we went ahead when a nice move was superbly finished by Ashley to put us 2-1 in front. Shamrock responded and equalised quickly. 22nd took off Carly, Ashley, Alannah and added Tanya, Scuttle, Laura to give us some fresh legs. Vicky made 3 great saves to keep us level but eventually the pressure told and Shamrock went 3-2 up. They added a fourth to pit us under enormous pressure but the Ladies dug in and responded. First Scuttle hit the post, Tanya saw a great effort just wide before some nice football saw scuttle finish neatly into the far corner to bring us back into it, 4-3. The 22nd had a great chance to equalise when quick thinking Jade went to take a quick free kick. With the net at her mercy she went to hit the free kick but she must have been still drunk from last night,  as Jade near fell over it scuffing it wide. We can't complain though as she defended superbly. Half time came 4-3 to Shamrock.

The Ladies came out the second half and Shamrock really turned it on scoring 2 quick goals to go 6-3 up. The Ladies rallied and battled hard to stay in the game. Vicky made a couple of superb saves the highlight was a finger top onto the post when it looked a goal was inevitable. Carly thought she had scored when her corner looked to have crossed the line, but the ref disagreed and Shamrock cleared after a scramble. Just when it looked like we were beaten, up popped scuttle to finish to give us a glimmer of hope, 6-4. The Ladies worked tirelessly even though they were exhausted and the Shamrock keeper made an amazing save from Tanya tipping it onto the post and gathering as the ball trickled along the line. But minutes late Tanya made no mistake slotting home and giving us real hope, 6-5. With time ticking away Shamrock looked to kill of the game putting us under pressure. But the Ladies hung on putting their bodies on the line, blocking and tackling everything. Just when it looked over up popped Laura to fire home a left foot effort beyond the Shamrock keeper to equalise, 6-6. With time up the refs blew for full time and penalties !

Shamrock Ladies 9-2 22nd Ladies

The ladies started on the back of a good result last time out. But from the off with Shamrock with their star player back from Homeless world cup looked very good. They moved the ball well and controlled things. They got an early couple of goals to go 2-0 up. Vicky made a couple of good saves and chances were missed at the other end. Shamrock added another 3 with their 5th being the pick of the bunch. A lovely turn and finish into the far top corner gave Vicky no chance. The girls to their credit battled through to the half and should have had a couple of goals back apart from some poor finishing. 5-0 Shamrock at HT.

The Girls were given a bit of a roasting at half time about getting tighter to the opposition. They came out and started brightly creating a few changes the best of them missed by Carly from a yard out. Shamrock dangerous on the break made it 6 before Ashley smashed the ball home to make it 6-1. Shamrock hut us again 3 more times to make it 9. Ashley who was always a threat with her powerful shot struck again to make it 9-2. As it stands we need to win against Queens next week and hope Shamrock loose v Belfast Swifts for us to get to final.

22nd Ladies 3-3 Belfast Swifts

The Ladies started their Plate part of The Futsal competition against Belfast Swifts. The Ladies started well but couldn't find any openings as big greedy Katrina wouldn't pass it. The Swifts grew into the game but found it hard getting by Jade, Ashley and Alannah. When they did Vicky 'the cat' Thompson was superb in nets making a string of great saves. Eventually Swifts found a way through with a bit of luck when a high ball was forced home, 1-0 Swifts. The Ladies were under the cosh but Tanya smacked the bar with a great effort and saw another shot saved. The Ladies battled away to half time with Laura making an important clearance and Danielle battling hard to help her team defend. The half finished with the 2's 1-0 down.

Second half saw them come out and move the ball a lot better and a free kick from Ashley smashed off the Swifts post. But the Swifts broke away to make it 2-0. The Ladies dug in and some nice football between Jade, Olivia, Ashley and Katrina saw Kat knocking the ball in to make it 2-1. Back in the game the ladies pished on and Katrina smashed in the equaliser, 2-2. The Ladies were on top and were knocking the ball about now but the Swifts were always dangerous on the break. Again Vicky made a couple of superb saves to keep the 2's in the hunt. But the Swifts started to grow into the game and put a lot of pressure on the 22nd and they eventually got their reward when they managed to beat Vicky to make it 3-2. But the 2's weren't finished, with Alannah, Carly and Tanya added for fresh legs Katrina was sent clear and she duely delivered to equalise, 3-3. Both teams pressed for for a winner but it wasn't to come and both had to settle for a draw in what was an entertaining game.

The 2's wore poppies and observed a minutes silence in remembrance to all this who gave the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedom.

The 22nd started their last group game before the split working hard to restrict St James and to try and force openings of our own. Both teams probed each other early without any success and it was Vicky in 22nd goals who made a good early save. At the other end Carly was unlucky not to find the net with the St James keeper saving well. Jade worked hard with Alannah and kept St James out. But unfortunately their resolve was broken and St James grabbed the opening goal just before the half, 1-0 St James. Tanya showed those good feet again sending a few to the shop, Chloe showing great pace, Danielle working hard and Laura showing great determination. But unfortunately we couldn't get a goal before the half. 1-0 HT.

Second have saw the ladies tire on the big pitch and Vicky coming to the rescue more than once. Unfortunately even she couldn't prevent St James grabbing a quick fire double to make it 3-0. The Ladies kept working trying to get a goal back but unfortunately the St James's keeper was there to stop the ladies getting their goal. All the ladies tried hard to the death but simply couldn't stop St James's getting their 4th to wrap up the game and win the group.

22nd Ladies 8-1 Queens Ladies

The game started with the 22nd on the front foot against new team Queens and it wasn’t long before a long range effort from Ashley found the back of the Queens net, 1-0 22nd. Queens tried hard to stem the flow off the 22nd but a real pile driver from jade doubled the 2’s lead(she even managed to keep her top on). Ashley then broke through to slot home and make it 3-0, before Katrina missed a golden opportunity to make it 4. Olivia off the bench scored with a neat finish to make it 4-0 and the same player was on hand to put the 22nd 5-0 in-front. Alannah worked hard with happy feet Tanya at the back to keep Queens out but right on half time they pulled a goal back to make it 5-1 at the break.

The 22nd started the second half brightly and Katrina sized up a shot but decided to try and break open the emergency exit (some-one was heard to shout shoot next time). Carly then after a lot of hard work got her reward when she finished beautifully into the far corner to make it 6-1. Katrina with some nice foot work then managed to squeeze the ball in at the near post to make it 7. Shortly after Jade hit home the 8th goal to seal a good victory for the ladies. There was still time for Vicky to make a superb reaction save and Tanya happy feet to get her feet cut off at the Knees, though she did make the most of it (Neymar). Chloe showing some great energy was looking to get her first goal but unfortunately it wasn’t to come.

22nd Ladies 2-5 St Oliver Plunkett Ladies

Ladies found themselves at a very big Queens pitch against a good SOPFC team. The Ladies started strongly moving the ball well and keeping procession but lacked that cutting edge. SOPFC had the same problem. It wasn't until some good build up play saw the ball break to Ashley and she fired home from distance, 1-0 22nd. The half was a very even contest and it was probably fair when SOPFC got an equaliser just before the break.

Second half started and much the same, very even with both teams moving the ball well. After that initial opening spell SOPFC put together a couple of nice moves and were rewarded with 2 nice tram goals, 3-1 SOPFC. But credit to the Ladies they kept at it and got their reward with a deflected shot wrong footing the SOPFC keeper to make it 3-2 SOPFC. The Ladies pressed on and SOPFC nearly caught us on the break only for some good keeping by Vicky. This eventually proved our undoing as they caught us with two quick fire goals to make it 5-2 and wrap up the victory.

22nd Ladies 0-5 Foyle Belles

The ladies kicked off their Futsal season with quite a few players missing for various reasons. The Ladies started at a good tempo and for long periods the game was very even. Vicky made 2 very good saves to keep the 2's level. At the other end Lauren and Carly both came close forcing saves from the Foyle keeper. In the last minutes in the first half Foyle put together a nice one two which saw them through to open the scoring, 1-0 Foyle. Right at the death a superb effort by Tanya was well tipped over by the Foyle keeper. 1-0 HT.

Second half saw Foyle come out and get 3 quick goals to go 4-0 up. But credit to the Ladies they battled hard and made the Foyle keeper make another couple of good saves. At the other end with Vicky beaten it looked like another goal but somehow Ashley superbly tackled the Foyle striker with the net at her mercy. Vicky made another couple of very good saves and Lauren couldn't convert from close range with the Foyle keeper eventually beaten. Foyle grabbed a 5th to round off their victory but what was pleasing for the 2's was the way they kept going and the manor they passed the ball.

22nd Ladies 2-3 St Oliver Plunkett Ladies

The ladies last game of their season started with optimism and hope that the girls could get their first win. The opening exchanges were quite even with both teams looking to attack. The deadlock was broken when the 2's forced a corner. Tanya curled the corner in under the cross bar and the Plunkett keeper punched the ball into her own goal, 1-0 22nd. Tanya of course ran down the pitch doing that Deli Alli eye trick trying to claim it ! Own goal kid no matter how many tricks you try. The lead didn't last long as a shot from distance was saved by Gina but the rebound tapped home, 1-1. Minutes later Plunkett extended their lead when a through ball released their striker who finished well, 2-1 Plunkett. Things started to heat up a bit and Katrina turning the full back on half raced down the wing. The full backing not getting the free kick she wanted raced after Katrina and brought her down in the box, penalty to 22nd. There was then a bit of a tussle which saw 3 players shown red cards ! Lauren through all this kept her cool to slot home the penalty to equalise for the Ladies. A bit of reshuffling for both teams and Plunkett took full advantage to grab a third goal to go 3-2 up just before the break. The ladies tried but couldn't get back on terms before the half time whistle. 3-2 Plunkett HT.

Second half started again with both teams searching for another goal. Jade was strong at the back like she has been all year along with Ashley beside her. Lauren on her own up top worked hard and chased everything to try and get that equaliser. The game became a little scrappy and a midfield battle which Plunkett were edging. The 22nd tried to force a break through but it just wasn't coming. Courtney tried to release Lauren to utilise her pace but just couldn't find that killer ball. The referee brought the game to an early finish due to the light and so the end of the ladies second season. Full time 3-2, Plunkett

22nd Ladies 0-8 Larne Ladies

Our first proper home game of the season saw us up against a very strong Larne team. Having got their first point last week the ladies hoped to cause an upset. The ladies kicked of with the 22nd on the attack from the very start. Katrina found herself clear but the Larne keeper saved well and Katrina couldn't convert the rebound. More 22nd pressure resulted in a corner which Tanya picked out Jade who headed towards goal only to see the Larne keeper dive to her right and make another good save. The keeper then thwarted Lauren as the 22nd kept up the pressure. Jade and Natasha were very good at the back holding the Larne strikers at bay. But lady luck turned on the 2's and a good through ball saw Larne winger through but Gina made a good save at her near post. Minutes later Larne took the lead when another through ball saw the Larne striker slip the ball past Gina as she rushed off her line. Larne then seized the initiative and put on some sustained pressure and scored a second from distance. In the fading minutes of the 1st have they added a third when 2's were caught sleeping from a corner and a shot was fired over Gina from corner of the box. 3-0 Larne at half time, the ladies were very unfortunate having dominated the first 30 minutes of the half.

The second half saw Larne come out and assert their authority. They played some nice football and added a further 2 quick goals to take a firm grip on The game. To be fair the 22nd Ladies continued to fight and battle hard but couldn't break down a resolute Larne defence. Jade, Ashley, Courtney and Rebekah all worked very hard at the back and midfield to try and restrict Larne. Katrina had to be withdrawn due to a tight hamstring and Ibiza bender syndrome.  With the Ladies tiring Larne ran in another 3 goals to make it 8. Gina making a good point blank save from a header kept it at 8. Samantha received a horrible tackle at the end but managed to battle on as all subs were used. Again credit has to go to the Ladies who battled right to the end and never gave up. We go into our last game v St Oliver Plunkett Ladies in 2 weeks in the hope of getting our first win of the season. FT 8-0 Larne.

Carnmoney Athletic Ladies 3-3 22nd Ladies

The game started with Carnmoney on the front foot playing some nice football and making the 2's chase. The ladies started to get a foot hold in the game but that's when disaster struck a mistake saw the striker through but Gina made a very good point blank save only to see the rebound bundled home, 1-0 Carnmoney. Within minutes a mistake in midfield saw a nice pass release the Carnmoney left winger who finished past the advancing Gina, 2-0. The ladies rallied and Katrina raced clear only to hit the keeper with her finish. As luck would have it Carnmoney went down the other end and won a dubious corner. This was crossed in and Carnmony striker headed it goal bound.... Natasha on the post looked to stop it but she couldn't decide if she was gonna eat it or caress it and it finished up in the net, 3-0. At this point Britney lost the plot on the side line threatening fire and brimstone unless the ladies pulled it together. Pull it together they did, a great through ball released Lauren who finished superbly into the far corner, 3-1. The 22nd were very much on top but couldn't find another goal before the half. 3-1 HT.

Few home truths and a change at half time to the team. Saw the ladies flying out of the blocks and Lauren capitalising on a mistake to make it 3-2 at the second attempt. Within minutes a lovely ball round Katrina who raced clear and cleverly beat the keeper to equalise, 3-3. The ladies were playing some lovely stuff and the back four were superb with jade, Vicky, Ash and Rebekah winning everything. Sub Scuttle was having an impact with some nice footwork and lovely through balls. One of which saw Katrina away only for her to fluff her lines. Minutes later Carnmoney had the ball in the net but was ruled out for offside. The game was a real don't end to end with both teams wanting the points. A good effort from the edge of the box was superbly pushed round the post by the diving Gina to keep the scores level. At 5he other end Kinky Kat bewitched the defenders and put it on a plate for Laurens hat-trick, but she fluffed her lines with the net at her mercy. Back to the other end and a mix up at the back saw Carnmoney with ball in the net but yet again offside. 22nd made another change and within minutes Olivia was presented with an opportunity from the edge of the box but unfortunately scuffed her shot wide. Jade at the back was superb winning everything that was threw at her (midfield no chance). With both teams right to the death going for it the ref decided enough was enough. What an advert for ladies football, a cracking game right to the end and our first point of the year.

22nd Ladies 4-6 Chimney Corner Ladies

Another warm evening saw the 22nd play one of the title contenders at our last game at Mounty. The 2's kicked the game off and started very well, putting a lot of pressure on the CC defence and an early chance saw Lauren fire just wide of the near post from the edge of the box. The ladies defended superbly and the midfield worked very hard. The 2's took the lead when Tanya  drifted a lovely free kick over the CC back line were Katrina finished superbly to put the 2's 1-0 up. Within minutes the 22nd were 2-0 up when Lauren sent clear by Tanya made no mistake, finishing neatly. CC were shocked buy the 22nd Ladies were playing very well. CC got a goal back when a poor clearance caused chaos on the 22nd box and the ball was forced home to make it 2-1. But the ladies were to keep battling and another Tanya through ball saw Katrina race clear and thump the ball in to make it 3-1. Cc came back at the 2's putting them under a lot of pressure but with Vicky and Jade leading the tough rear guard they looked solid. Natasha and Tanya worked well in midfield and a ball from Tanya led to Katrina being fouled on the half way. Her quick thinking taking the free kick quickly set Lauren away who opened her body up to bend the ball round the keeper and into the far corner, 4-1 22nd ! CC came again and piled on the pressure. The ladies tried to hang onto their 3 goal cushion to the half but a cracking cross from the right saw the CC striker take the ball down and finish calmly, 4-2. 22nd thought they had a fifth when a nice free kick from Tanya was volleyed home by Katrina only to be harshly ruled out for offside. The half came to a close with the 2's firmly in control.

Second half started with 22nd under a lot of pressure but the back four defended very well. Everything that was threw at them, they blocked, tackled or headed away. Gina in goals made a couple of good saves and the ladies looked dangerous on the break. Samantha twice was flattened by the CC keeper who was quickly off her line to stop Sam with last ditch tackles. Katrina and Lauren both came close to hatricks only for Lauren to poke wide and the CC keeper to block well from a corner. Going into the last 10mins and the ladies still looked comfortable, then disaster struck ! 4 goals for CC in 7 or 8 chaotic minutes saw the game turned on it's head. No-one could believe what they were seeing but from 4-2 down CC found themselves 6-4, how I will never know. Right at the end Katrina saw a good effort tipped round the post by the CC keeper diving to her right. Full time 6-4 Chimney Corner.

Shamrock Ladies 4-3 22nd Ladies

This was to be our third meeting with Shamrock and what a game it was to be. The 22nd kicked off and from the outset put Shamrock under a lot of pressure. Tanya and Natasha winning the midfield battle provided the platform for Katrina and Lauren to press forward. While the 22nd had a lot of possession and Shamrock pinned in their own half the ladies couldn't find a way through their stubborn defence. Some great last ditch defending from Shamrock kept Sam and Katrina out. Then wouldn't you know it after battering them for 20 minutes Shamrock break away and slide the ball past Gina to go 1-0 up.
Gina stopped a second goal when she raced out to clear her lines. Though minutes later one can only call it a blonde moment, she walked outside the box with ball in hand. The free kick was curled wide. Minutes late Katrina almost levelled when some nice play between her and Sam saw Karina fire a good effort towards goal only to the Shamrock keeper make a great flying stop. From a set play the ball fell to Lauren who saw her shot rebound of the post. Then you guessed it Shamrock broke away and to be fair scored a good second with a nice finish from the edge of the box, 2-0.
The ladies then had a moment of brilliance when Katrina turned superbly in the box and fired home in the near corner, 2-1.
This really got the ladies going and minutes later they were level when Lauren fired a shot from the edge of the box through the Shamrock keeper to level the scores, 2-2. What a half of football.

The second half saw the ladies come out strong and a powerful run by Katrina saw her hauled down inside the box. The ref had no hesitation and pointed to the spot. Katrina dusted herself down and stepped up to slot home the penalty  3-2 22nd.
You could sense the confidence in the team. The back four playing well with jade, Vicky, Ash and Rebekah all battling hard. The midfield four of Sam, Carly, Natasha and Tanya worked tirelessly and kept trying to release the 2 strikers. The Shamrock equaliser came from a mix up in the 22nd defence when there was enough round it to eat it but somehow the ball finished up in the net 3-3.
Then heart break, a misjudged pass saw the Shamrock striker through on goal and she made no mistake to put Shamrock 4-3 up.
One of the highlights for the crowd was when Natasha threw a water bottle back to the line and it burst open soaking the poor 22nd manager. Though there was to be karma as shortly after when there had been no rain for weeks a cloud appeared over Natasha and near drowned her. The 22nd introduced Courtney to try and add some legs to midfield in an effort to get the equaliser. Shamrock almost extended their lead only for Gina to react superbly and stick out a leg and deflect the ball into the post. Shamrock looking to kill off the game saw a free kick well saved by Gina. The 2's tried to push on to get an equaliser but they just couldn't find a way through and feeling they should of had something from the game had to settle for another defeat. But plenty of positives for next week. FT 4-3 Shamrock.

Chimney Corner Ladies 11-5 22nd Ladies

After a two week break the ladies travelled to Antrim to play Chimney Corner in scorching heat. The game kicked off and very early some poor defending saw the ladies down 2-0. They picked themselves up and a good run by Katrina and cross saw Lauren with what looked like a simple finish. But with sleeves and shirts rolled up to her oxters they must have nipped her at the crucial moment and she fluffed her lines. Unfortunately for the 2's Chimney Corner broke away and got a third. Some neat play in midfield released Katrina. As she raced through clear on goal she just over ran the ball sending it through to the keeper. At the other end Gina made a good stop to keep it respectable at this early stage. The ref called a halt 20 mins in for a water break. This gave the 22nd manager a chance to give them a right roasting for an abysmal display.

The girls came out and a nice through ball released Katrina and this time she raced clear and thumped the ball home to make it 3-1. Minutes later with Katrina off the pitch heaving up her guts (morning sickness was mentioned by knocked up Jo) Lauren raced clear and finished to make it 3-2 to put the ladies back in it. The ladies really started to turn the screw and a corner from Tanya was met by Sam who headed the ball goal ward only to see the keeper make a great save and tip it onto the bar. Katrina then flattened the keeper trying to get the rebound. Unfortunately the equaliser wouldn't come and Chimney Corner knocked in another 3 before the half to make it 6-2 at half time.

The second half saw the ladies come out and work very hard and defend a lot better. Ashley making some great challenges and clearances. Unfortunately Chimney Corner scored another 2 goals to go 8-2 up. The ladies rallied and Lauren using her pace got in behind again and again finished very well to make it 8-3. This sparked chimney corner back to life and they scored another 3 goals in quick succession. The ref called another water break and the ladies were told to go out play football and enjoy the last 20mins.

They did that and it wasn't long before a good throw from Natasha saw Katrina slip in Carly who finished calmly into the far corner, 11-4. Minutes later Tanya and Katrina played a nice one two and with Katrina beating two players she slotted home to make it 11-5. Natasha with all her hard work almost got the goal she deserved but she caught her shot to well and saw it hit the side net. Claire, Vicky and Rebekah all came on and made great impacts. To their credit the ladies battled to the end in terrible heat. FT 11-5.

22nd Ladies 2-9 Shamrock Ladies

From the outset, Shamrock knocked the ball around well in the middle of the park, looking for gaps and stretching the opposition with their pace on the wings and in attack. They almost went ahead right at the start, when the ball was played from the back to winger Caiomhe McTasney, who beat a defender and passed to Cliodhna Pettigrew, but her first time shot was saved by goalkeeper Gina Keenan.

However the 22nd defence ws coming under a lot of pressure, with every clearance just coming back at them in the form of another attack. The deadlock was broken in the 10thminute, when McTasney again played it through, this time to Eimear Campbell and she fired a shot low into the corner under pressure to open the scoring for her team.

22ndwere nearly handed a golden opportunity in the 17thminute, when a poor kick from keeper Demi Kinghan fell to forward Natasha Baird but the keeper recovered well to save from a tight angle.

She was then able to start a counter attack by playing the ball quickly upfield, with midfielder Nikita O'Neill picking it up and spraying a great pass out to McTasney on the wing. She cut insde from the and cured in a cross come shot the evaded Keenan and arrowed straight into the top corner for 2-0.

Shamrock quickly added another two minutes later when Pettigrew beat the offside trap and calmly slotted in to te bottom corner to make it 3-0.

22ndcame close in the 25thminute when Baird hit a cross that Kinghan could only get a hand to, but couldn't hold watching as it dropped just wide of the post when it could so easily have gone anywhere.

They kept trying to play when the got the ball in opposition half though, and they got their reward on 35 minutes when Carly Payne drove into the box but was upended by a late shamrock tackle. Midfielder Courtney Hughes stepped up and made no mistake, firing high past Kinghan to give her team a lifeline and make the score 3-1.

There were frther chances before half time for both Pettigrew and McTasney, with the former hitting the bar with a delightful lob, but neither team were able to add to their tallys before the break.

The 2ndhalf began with 22nd back in the game and trying to make their mark on proceedings, but the quick counter attack of Shamrock was always a threat and it didnt take long for Pettigrew to add another, beating the line and again firing low in the 53rdminute for her second of the night.

The 5th came shortly after in the 60th minute when Nikita O'Neill fired low acorss her body into the bottom corner when under pressure from the defence, before she added a 6th when Pettigrew set her up to curl a great effort into the far post.

It was a moment to remember for defender Chanice Smylie in the 76th minute, when she scored her first ever goal for the club, as she hit the ball over a defender, turned and hit a lob towards goal that Keenan could only get a hand to but couldn't keep out.

Nikita O'Neill, a constant threat on the ball, the set up sister Danielle O'Neill to fire in the 8thbefore Lauren Smyth pulled one back for the hosts with a great finish after beating the offside trap.

The final goal of the evening came just before the final whistle when Nikita O'Neill completed her hatrick with a 35 yard free kick that Keenan misjudged as it sneaked in just insdie the post.

This win will undoubtedly boost Shamrock as they go into their next game against St Oliver Plunkett, while 22nd have a tough game aganst 2nd place Chimney Corner.

Shamrock Ladies 7-0 22nd Ladies

The ladies playing in the cup this week in blistering hot conditions at the bone. The 2's kicked off playing from left to right and had quite a bit of early procession. Both teams probed at each other but it was 22nd who started the better without testing the Shamrock keeper. Against the run of play a nice ball over the top saw the Shamrock no9 race clear down the left.  She delivered a great cross and the Shamrock centre forward finished from close range, 1-0 Shamrock. The 2's tried to ralley and had some joy down the right but the Shamrock defence held firm. As the 2's pressed again Shamrock broke away again down the left and the no.9 raced away. She fired a great shot into the near top corner giving Jo no chance, 2-0. The 22nd tried to ralley and forced a corner. Tanya put in a great cross and with Sam stooping to head just wide. Minutes later Tanya fired a great effort from 25 yards but the keeper made a good save. Tasha worked hard in midfield, Vicky and Olivia looked solid at the centre of defence. The 2's pressed on but again caught on the break down the Shamrock right this time. The winger put in a great cross and the Shamrock no.9 was there to slam the ball home, 3-0. Just before half time Shamrock got their forth when they scored a header from a corner. 4-0 HT.

A few harsh words on passing at half time and the girls came out the second half playing a bit better. Shamrock steadily upped the pressure and Bill-jo was caught dreaming about pizza when the Shamrock striker nipped in in front of her to slide the ball home, 5-0. Minutes later Jo must have been thinking about desert when a long range shot hit the bar, hit her, went up in the air and credit to Jo. She reacted fastest putting aside her cravings to gather the ball. Shamrock added a sixth with 10 minutes to go. The girls showed some great spirit and sub Rebekah turned in the box but unfortunately saw her shot well saved. Late on Shamrock got a 7th when Jo was beaten at her near post. The ladies battled to the death but just couldn't get the goal. Full time 7-0 Shamrock

22nd Ladies 1-5 Carnmoney Athletic Ladies

Our first home game saw us up against league leaders Carnmoney at our temporary home Boys Model 3G. The game was to be played in brillant sunshine and very hot conditions.

The game kicked off and the young Carnmoney team got the ball down and knocked it about nicely. The 22nd battled hard to get into the game but got caught in procession to often. The Carnmoney left winger was very quick and looked very dangerous getting through early only for Natasha to make a good save. At the other end Scuttle worked hard doing with Rebekah but found getting through the Carnmoney back line very difficult. Eventually the pace of the left winger saw her beat two players through on goal and finish well beyond the diving Natasha, 1-0 Carnmoney. Olivia and Vicky battled hard at the back along with Carly and Ashley. Ashley was superb against the quickest player on the pitch. Natasha was called on again to make another fine save. Lauren and Tanya started to get a foot hold in midfield and tried to bring Sam and Natalie into the game. A foul on the 22nd right saw Tanya float in a great free kick. Scuttle had her effort saved by the keeper but Sam sneaked in round the back post to slam the ball home, 1-1. This lifted the girls and they pressed hard to go in front. But Carnmoney always looked dangerous when on the ball. A lapse of concentration at the back saw Carnmoney break through and score a second giving Natasha no chance, 2-1. Just before the break Rebekah hunted down the Carnmoney Centre back, dispossessed her and knocked a great ball across the box. Sam looked odds on to score but just took her eye off it (to check her tan was even) and the chance was gone. The game flowed end to end but no more chances of note and the half closed out 2-1 Carnmoney.

Second half started and Carnmoney kept playing nice footballtrying to work their openings. An early chance saw Natasha tip round a good effort. Though from the resulting corner she came for it flapped like a dieing seagull and the Carnmoney striker slipped the ball home, 3-1. The ladies tried to ralley but chances were hard to come by against the Carnmoney back four. The Ladies dig deep and 22nd back four made some great tackles and blocks. But unfortunately a rebound found the Carnmoney striker who from 20 yards fired a great effort beyond Natasha into the far corner, 4-1. The 2's made their chances bringing on Claire, Courtney and Nicole. After a bit of a reshuffle the ladies almost got a goal back when a Lauren corner was almost headed home by Carly, but she just couldn't get her head to it. At the other end Carnmoney made their pressure tell when they added a 5th to wrap the game up. But there was still time for Scuttle when running down the wing to get what looked like she was taken out by a sniper,  but turned out to be cramp. The game finished 5-1 to Carnmoney.

The Cliff Larne
Larne Ladies 12-0 22nd Ladies

Well we're do we start with this one ? From the very start things just didn't seem right with the Ladies. Passing was sloppy and work rate low. Midfield caught cold first few minutes saw a good chip from distance beat Jo, 1-0. The ladies to their credit rallied and tried to press Larne but struggled to create any real opportunities. Larne pressed and mistake after mistake caused the 22nd alsorts of problems. Courtney fired a shot from edge of the box straight at the Larne keeper. To Larnes credit they were very good and took their chances racking up 4 more goals in the first half to go into the break 5-0 up. A very poor first half from the ladies with very little positives to talk about. At half time the expected roasting took place. But the Ladies were also told that they are a team and we stick together no matter what. To go out play football and enjoy themselves.

Second half saw the ladies improve and they worked hard to try and establish themselves in the game. Tasha worked hard in midfield but we were being over ran by Larne. Unfortunately Larne knocked in a couple more goals, some from mistakes some good strikes. To the ladies credit they never have up. Courtney and Katrina linked well and with Courtney through a last ditch tackle stopped her just as she was about to pull the trigger. Larne breaking through saw Jo race from her line to make a good save. Larne went on to score another couple of goals to round of a good display from them. They were very worthy winners at 12-0. For 22nd Ladies it's back to the drawing board, knuckle down, address our problems and move forward as a team.

St. Oliver Plunkett Ladies v 22nd Ladies

The match started on pretty even terms. The 2s were settling in well to their positions. No real chances made from the ladies in the opening minutes. Plunkett kept putting the ball out to their left and had some success when the midfielder cut in for one on one with the keeper. 1-0 Plunkett .
The 2s couldn’t get into the game at this point and again plunket targeting our right hand side quickly made it 2-0.
The girls never gave up and with some good work from Lauren on the left she was in on goal with a last ditch tackle from a plunket defender to take the ball away from her. After this plunket scored another 2 goals with half time approaching. 4-0 Plunkett .

Half time brought around some changes. Vicky came off, jade moved in to central defence, Tanya dropped back and Courtney up in behind katrina. The 2s started the second half brightly.
Some good work by Sam and Natasha on the left put Sam through one on one with the keeper but her shot was well held. With the 2s pushing up to find a breakthrough Plunkett found some luck on their right side and again cut through one on one and got a lucky goal against the run of play. 5-0 Plunkett .
Lauren was still having some success on the left side and her crosses were being met but nothing to trouble the keeper with. Again, Plunkett broke up field and shot from outside the box and made it 6-0.
The 2s kept pushing forward with Courtney, Sam and Katrina all having chances. Plunkett keeper saved well. Katrina hit the bar. The girls kept their heads up but it Just wasn’t our night. Onto the next match.

22nd Ladies took part in IFA Street soccer Tournament at Valley 36.

The ladies kicked off against Belfast Ravens and with Gina making her debut in nets. A strike from 5 yards by Ashley settled the game 1-0 to the 22nd Ladies.

The second game saw a lot of pressure from 22nd but they couldn't break down Rosario Ladies and the game finished 0-0.

The third game saw Tanya strike twice either side of Laura's good finish to put the 22nd 3-0 up. Right at the end scuttle managed to eventually score to make it 4-0.

The last game saw the 22nd play against Belfast Swifts. This game was a more even a fair. But the 2's were unlucky not to get a winner when Lauren broke through down the left a couple of times only to see her efforts well saved by the Swifts keeper. Full time 0-0.

This was a great day rounded off with pizza for all provided by Street Soccer ! They were well received and a few ladies moved quicker to get the pizza than they did on the pitch. Not pointing any fingers at JO. A day were football was truly the winner.

22nd Ladies 6-4 CSP Ladies

The new year and first game of 2018 for the ladies. CSP needed a win to qualify for quarter finals and the 2's playing for pride.

The game kicked off at the usual frantic pace and the 22nd settled well and looked sharpe. Katrina through early missing a good chance but moments later she made amends with a tidy finish at the near post, 1-0 22nd. Straight from the ko CSP equalised as the 2's were sleeping. But to the ladies credit they bounced back. Angry Vicky being string in taçkle and her usual aggressive self winning everything at the back. Carly working hard and wining decisive tackles. Katrina and Natasha combining well going forward and it was this combination that led to 22nds second goal swept home by Katrina, 2-1 22nd. At the other end Billi-jo made a series of one blocks and saves to keep th 2's in front. A nice move saw Natasha thump the ball home to make it 3-1, shortly followed by Katrina bundling the ball home to put the 2's 4-1 ahead and in control. Ashley, Tanya, Kaitylen and scuttle came on and helped the 2's to half time with their lead intact. In fact Kaitlyn was unlucky not to add to the 2's lead. 4-1 22nd HT.

CSP started the second half strong knowing they needed a result to qualify. They got 2 quick goals to make it 4-3 and set the game up nicely. But some tough tackling from Vicky and Carly stopped the CSP threat along with Jo making 2 more very good stops. It looked like a long pass from Natasha that was swept home by Katrina would make it 5 by the ref ruled it out for the kick in being taken at the wrong spot. But Katrina did add the 5th and 6th with two good finishes to put the 2's 6-3 up. Natalie entered the fray ad got stuck straight in and was unfortunate not to score. Scuttle after squeaking in the managers ear got on and saw the CSP keeper make a great save to keep out her good effort. CSP got a fourth but Ashley and Tanya came on to help see out the game along with Kaitylen. They kept the ball well and looked dangerous going forward but unfortunately time ran out as the 2's were playing very well. A great result against a good CSP team 6-4 22nd

22nd Ladies 2-13 Ballynahinch Ladies

The ladies started on the front foot and Katrina through on goal saw her effort well saved. Straight away Ballynahinch broke and went 1 up. The 2's kept working and the Ballynahinch keeper making 2 top drawer saves to maintain their lead. Vicky given a specific job to do stuck to her task and done it well built unfortunately Ballynahinch kept breaking and started to get results scoring four more in quick succession to go 5-0 up. Jo made a couple of good saves, before a nice football move involving some nice passing was superbly finished high into the roof of the net by Natasha. Tanya came on along with Carly and were both unlucky not to score. A free kick awarded to 22nd was well lined up and thumped home by Carly to make it 5-2 and offer up some hope. But unfortunately Tanya hitting the post and Ballynahinch keeper making a couple of more good saves kept it 5-2 at the interval.

Second half coul dnt have started any worse with a poor pass letting in Ballynahinch to score. The girls heads dropped and Ballynahinch kept getting goals. Again Tanya unfortunately hit the post twice and then Katelyn using her rear end to stop a thumping free kick. A quick free kick from Ballynahinch was this time saved by Jo's rear as she wasn't looking (lesson learnt there). By the time Ballynahinch scored their 13th the ladies were well beat but to their credit they never gave up and battled hard to the end.

Chimney Corner Ladies 16-2 22nd Ladies

The game started brightly for the ladies with Katrina getting through on goal nearly from the kick off only to see her shot saved. Chimney Corner were given far to much time and space and as a result scored 5 goals without reply. Jo making a couple of good saves and young Caitlyn coming close to getting a goal back. Katrina eventually got a goal for her hard work with a lovely run and a nice finish to make it 5-1. At the back we looked shaky and 2 more goals before the half made it 7 despite the hard work of the ladies.

At HT the girls were told enjoy it, keep the ball better, play football and work harder.

The second half saw a couple of early goals for Chimney Corner and the heads dropped. Jo made a couple of good saves and 1 superb save touching a rocket of a shot onto the cross bar. Katrina got a second goal for the 22nd by meging the keeper. Natalie making her 22nd debut done well and worked hard. There was a few passages of some really nice football by 22nd. Keeping the ball and moving it well. Tasha nearly scored ehen she rose at the back post only to see her header well saved. But unfortunately it wasn't to be and Chimney Corner Ladies ran out comfortable winners.

There were positives for our ladies with two debutantes tonight in Natalie and Caitlyn doing well. Plus some nice football at times but as always it's about enjoying the game of football and our ladies definately do win loose or draw.

22nd Ladies 8-9 CSP Ladies

Back on home soil the 22nd faced a depleted CSP team with Vicky stepping into goals to help them out. The 2's got out of the blocks quickest and Katrina opened the scoring 1-0. Jo made a good save at the other end to keep us in front. Tasha shot wide before Katrina made it 2-0 finishibg from close range. Minutes later Katrina made it 3-0 22nd and the girls were of to a flyer or so it seemed. Some awful defending and to be fair good CSP play saw them score 3 quick fire goals to make it 3-3. CSP continued to move the ball well and 22nd were poor in marking and picking up runners which allowed cap to full advantage. They fired in another 3 before the half to make it 6-3 at HT.

Second half started and quickly CSP made it 7. The 22nd management were not pleased and urged their team for a response. A quick free quick by Olivia saw CSP keeper jump over the ball like a scalded cat 7-4. The girls got their tails up and Katrina fell on Top of dodgy Vicky to make it 7-5. Natasha made it 7-6 with a neat finish. 22nd thought they were level but Katrina had score direct from a kick in ruled out. Ball went down the other end and unfortunately Jo coul dnt keep it out to make it 8-6. Katrina got another to make it 8-7. The 2's pushed for an equaliser but it was CSP who scored again to make it 9-7. In the dieing minutes Katrina pulled it back again to make it 9-8. Unfortunately time ran out and CSP held on to win 9-8.

Ballynahinch Ladies 8-4 22nd Ladies

Ladies travelled to Lisburn to play their second game v Ballynahinch in a very small Laurelhill community college. Both teams observed a minutes silence impeccably in Remembrance of sthose who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

The game started with the 2's on the front foot and pushing very hard to get the opening goal. The Ballynahinch keeper making a couple of good saves. It was a result of the pressure that Ballynahinch broke away twice to score in quick succession to go 2-0 up. The girls looked gutted as they had been very much on top. Unfortunately Ballynahinch added a third. Natasha making her debut got the girls going and after a few good efforts got a goal back by blasting home to make it 3-1. Ballynahinch scored a 4th and 5th but on came Sam to finish a good move nicely to make it 5-2. Right on half time Ballynahinch got their 6th. 6-2 HT.

Second half started as the first had with 22nd putting on the pressure but Ballynahinch broke away to make it 7. The girls responded and Katrina fired home a good angled shot to make it 7-3. Jade got a deserved goal when she slammed home to make it 7-4 and put 22nd in the hunt. The Ballynahinch keeper made a string of superb saves from nearly ever 22nd player to keep them in front. With Jo making a superb treble save at the other end and sweeping up well both keepers were excellent. Olivia had to leave play after a heavy tackle and unfortunately Ballynahinch scored and 8th to wrap up the points. But a super game to watch and very unfortunate not to take more from the game.

22nd Ladies 1-8 Chimney Corner Ladies

The ladies kicked off and win in seconds were a goal down to some poor defending. The girls rallied and Katrina came close on 3 occasions to draw level. Carly worked hard in middle and herself unlucky not to score. But Chimney Corner extended their lead to 2 then 3. Some good saves from jo kept the 2's in the game. Jade the rock was shooting from everywhere and was very unfortunate not to score. Scuttle came close but spun her shot wide. Tanya came on and tried to control play with her close control. But unfortunately just before the break Chimney Corner made it 4-0. Vicky decided to bull doze her way through and 3 50-50 tackles later she nearly made it. Laura was a hairs width of the far post with a good effort. HT 4-0 Chimney Corner.

The Ladies battled hard in the second half but unfortunately conceded a 5th. But a nice move and a good finish between the keepers legs by kaitlyn saw the 22nd score a much deserved goal, 5-1. Chimney Corner scored 3 more but Bill-jo was very good in goal making a string of saves as Did the Chimney Corner keeper from Katrina, Carly, Jade and Kaitlyn. Then finish result 8-1 did not reflect the game but chimney Corner were deserved winners.

Group A

22nd Ladies 0-0 Ballinahinch Ladies

The 2's not really warmed up properly were very sluggish to start with Ballinahinch making the early running. Eventually we started to get into the game and Katrina came close to opening the scoring. Jade made a good save with her face to keep scores level and scuttle showed some nice touches. Laura dine well at the back to keep the scores 0-0 and that's how it finished.

22nd Ladies 0-0 MidUlster Ladies

Both teams started well and Ashley moved to CM certainly helped to give the 2's more balance. Again Katrina came close to scoring squeezing a shot just wide. With Carly working hard up and down giving good options. Katelyn working hard with Laura to keep out MidUlster. Both teams battled hard but again 0-0.

22nd Ladies 0-0 Bangor Ladies

This was a hard fought game with both sides working hard and struggling to create openings. 22nd got a glimpse of goal but Katrina shot wide. Happy feet showed some nice skills and Jade punching clear well under pressure. But you guessed it finished 0-0.

Silver Cup Semi final

22nd Ladies 0-1 Newtown Ladies

The 2's started very well and quickly Katrina through on goal only to pull her shot wide. Seconds later scuttle through with the goal at her mercy and keeper down must have got distracted by that seagull again and back passed to the keeper. Katrina showed some nice feet but unfortunately blasted her shot of the bar. Britney was opening the wallet to try and buy a goal. The girls battled hard but just coul dnt get the break through. Unfortunately with penalties looming the very last seconds Newton broke through and finished past the brick. 1-0 Newtown

22nd Ladies 1-11 Belfast Celtic Ladies

The last game of the season saw a depleted 22nd team finish at home against a good Belfast Celtic.

2's started well pressing and trying to work an opening. But unfortunately a mistake saw Celtic take an early lead.  Celtic added 4 more without reply. To be fair the 22md Ladies battled on with Katrina pressing and creating a few half chances. The ladies pressed and worked hard and were further hindered when captain Vicky had tobleavr the fray with a bad knee injury leaving the ladies with 10 men. But credit to them they kept going to the half 5-0.

At half time the manger spoke about their lack of effort and belief ad this was their last game and should leave their heart and soul on the pitch.

The second half started with the 22nd uping their game and fighting for every tackle. Unfortunately Celtic eventually wore them down making the extra man tell by adding 3 goals. But the 22md wouldn't lay down and a long clearance by Billi-jo released Scuttle who calmly finished in the far corner to make it 8-1. Katrina added some height and fight at the back. But a special mention must go to Nikki who ran herself into the ground chasing everything. But the ability of Celtic saw them score 3 more to end the game 11-1 winners.

This brought an end to the 22nd season and their 1st. While it hasn't been a success as in points. It has certainly been a success as a club. We're our ladies have found a togetherness and friendships that will surely last a long time. A great effort by all in the face of adversity the pride we have in our ladies team is second to none. Lastly a big thank you to the niwfa for accepting us and providing a great competitive league for us to play in.

22nd Ladies 2-7 Limavady Ladies

With the league title already decided with Crewe’s walkover victory over Mountjoy United last week, the pressure was off for a depleted Limavady team who travelled down to Belfast to take on 22nd Ladies.

After a narrow 5-3 home win in the reverse fixture, Limavady, who could only field 11 players, would have expected a tough game and a much tighter contest.

The Roe Valley team dominated from the first whistle, with talented trio Olivia and Kylie Doherty and Louise McAllister controlling the game from midfield. Indeed, it was the latter who opened the scoring after picking the ball up from deep in her left hand position, before skipping past two defenders and blasting a shot into the near post past goalkeeper Billi-Jo Kitson, who could do nothing to save it.

They almost doubled their lead three minutes later, when the ball was played to Erin Mullan, who managed to get round two defenders and strike across goal, but her effort was saved by Kitson who could only parry it into the path of McAllister, but the goalkeeper was up swiftly to make another block and deny her a second goal.

Olivia Doherty almost scored a sensational goal soon after, when the ball fell to her from a cleared corner and she hit a vicious dipping volley that just missed the far post, before 22nd had their first real chance in the 20thminute, when Laura Keatings got the ball on the left and played a pinpoint cross to the head of top scorer Katrina Montgomery, but she just couldn’t get the header on target, watching it sail narrowly wide.

Limavady saw this as a let off, and came straight back up the pitch, with marauding right back Rachel McSparton picking the ball up in her own half and bombing up the flank before crossing in a wicked ball that just evaded McAllister and forward Jill Lavery, who couldn’t get anything on it.

They didn’t have long to wait though, as in the 23rd minute Kylie Doherty got the ball in midfield and hit a speculative effort from 30 yards that Kitson couldn’t get to, to double her team's lead.

22nd rallied after this, and the next minute, when a long ball was played over the top, Montgomery managed to beat the Limavady offside trap and got to the ball before keeper Lizzie Ballantine, who brought her down in the box, conceding a penalty and picking up a booking in the process before Montgomery stepped up and confidently fired the ball past Ballantine to half the deficit.

The next goal came in the 40th minute, when Mullan once again got the ball in midfield and beat two defenders, and this time made sure with her effort, passing into the far post just out of Kitson’s reach to restore the two goal advantage.

There were further chances for both teams before the break with Montgomery and McAllister both unable to capitalise with efforts that went just wide, which saw Limavady go in at half time 3-1 up.

The second half began as the first did, with McAllister getting away down the left and firing a dangerous shot towards the goal, but this time Kitson was able to catch it, and play it downfield, hitting Limavady on the break with a move that was finished by a wonderful long range effort from Courtney Hughes two minutes into the half to once again reduce the lead to a single goal.

22nd started playing some better football and looked like they believed they could get something from the game, before being hit by a Kylie Doherty quick-fire double in the 55th and 56th minutes, the first a delightful side foot right into the corner before completing her hat-trick with a smashed rebound after good work from McSparton and Lavery.

McSparton again turned provider as she cut back for Olivia Doherty to score her fourth before McAllister completed the scoring with a brilliant left footed near post drive in the 84th minute to make it 7-2.

Next up,  22nd have a free week before completing their season with a home tie against 4th placed Belfast Celtic ladies.

CSP Ladies 5-3 22nd Ladies

After a disappointing result last week we found ourselves in our last away game against a good CSP team. The 22nd started brightly and an early cross was handled in the CSP box resulting in a 22nd penalty. Up stepped Katrina to cooly despatch the ball into the far corner amid claims from happy feet Tanya that she taught her all she knows. 1-0 22nd.
The Ladies continued to work hard and force the issue pressing CSP back. A good start from the 2's but all of a sudden the whole team seemed to switch of for 15 minutes. Being second to every tackle and not working hard enough. But credit to CSP who took advantage and scored 3 quick goals to take a 3-1 lead.
The 2's also lost Vicky chocolate ankles at this point to surprisingly a knee injury. At this point it looked like coach Britney was going to have a blue fit. But some nice play from scuttle found Katrina who bullied her way forward and fired a great shot into the far corner, 3-2 and back in it. Laura going to left back on for Vicky was a master stroke by the ingenious coach and she quickly marshalled the tricky right winger.
The 22nd settled back down and started to play a bit and worked very hard to get back into the game pressing back CSP looking for an equaliser. First Sam tested the keeper from distance closely followed by a long range effort from tinder. But half time came all to quickly, 3-2 CSP HT.

Half time the Ladies were given a bit of a rocket and told to believe and fight for the game as it was there to be won.

The Ladies came out the second half and gave it everything. They battled hard and started to win their 50/50's. CSP turned the screw but Katelyn, Jade, Olivia and Laura stood firm. With Ashley and Tanya starting to control the midfield with Sam and Kaitlyn offering good wide options the 2's started to assert themselves on the game. They pressed hard with Scuttle and Katrina battling hard with CSP centre backs in a great contest. But unfortunately with the 2's pushing the were open to the counter attack and a good switch of play saw CSP get in behind twice in quick succession to make it 5-2
Credit to the ladies the dug in and battled hard and some good work from Sam down the right resulted in a 22nd free kick. Tanya curled in the free kick which hit the far post and Katrina was on hand to bundle the ball home for a well deserved hat trick, 5-3
Right at the end, a good CSP free kick looked destined for the top corner but Skippy Billi-jo Kitson managed to skip across her goal and make a fine save. The game finished as it had started - end to end and was a credit to both teams who put on a great game of football.

Crewe Ladies 6-0 22nd Ladies

After a short break the 2's found themselves playing the league leaders at Glenavy. The 22nd started the brighter playing some nice football and a nice interchange of play saw Courtney release Katrina who raced through on goal. Unfortunately she shot straight at the Crewe keeper who saved comfortably. The 22nd pressed on and this time Courtney played through only to be harshly ruled offside. A break by Crewe and Vicky was forced into a foul on edge of box. The Crewe striker swept the free kick over the wall and unfortunately through Bill-jo's legs. 1-0 Crewe. From a Crewe corner they managed to scramble the ball home to make it 2-0. 22nd management were not pleased two poor goals to concede and the score could have been reversed. The Ladies picked themselves up and some nice play down the left involving impressive Laura resulted in Courtney being brought down in the box... penalty 22nd. For some reason ricochet didn't fancy it and up stepped Tanya happy feet.... but unfortunately she danced instead of shooting and the keeper saved a tame penalty. Straight away to compound things Crewe went down the other end and again through some poor defending made it 3-0. 22nd were dismayed having played so well finding themselves 3 down. Samantha, Scuttle, Katrina and Laura all linked up well and continued to cause Crewe problems. Crewe burst forward again and won another free kick in a dangerous position. Skippy the keeper set her wall up and took up her position but could do nothing with a cracking free kick from Crewe to make it 4-0. Just before the half one of Crewe players left the field with a suspected break we wish her well. HT 4-0.

Second half got off to a nightmare start with 2 quick goals to put Crewe 6 up. Credit to 22nd they could have completely capitulated but instead dug in and battled very hard. Back 4 of Katelyn, Vicky, Olivia and Jade defended superbly. Tanya and Ashley battled hard in midfield and at the other end a couple of last ditch tackle stopped the Katrina breaking through. Chelsea and Kaitlyn entered the fray to bring some much needed fresh legs on Crewes impressive big pitch. Billi-jo aka Skippy made a great save at the end and the Crewe keeper matched it with a good save from a Katrina free kick. Game finished 6-0.

22nd Ladies 2-6 Carrick Ladies

Home to Carrick the 2s where looking another win after a great match last week against mountjoy. With no subs and a few ladies still recovering from injuries the game started and straight away the 2's were on the front foot putting pressure on the Carrick midfield.
Carrick made a few breaks but where put under pressure by the back four Sam, Vicky, Jade and Katelyn and also Jo who made a great run of her line to put Carrick forward off who panicked and hit the ball over the bar.
The 2s gathered themselves and pushed forward with a great run from Chelsea on the right who put Carrick right back under pressure. Katrina and Courtney played some nice football in the middle which pushed them forward and the Carrick left back seen it out for a corner. Up came Tanya golden boot who the 2s hoped would do the same job as last week and meet Katrinas head nicely from the corner. A powerful hit from Tanya met katrina head who smashed it into the back of the net 1-0 22nd.
A great lift for the ladies this was which saw them push more and more forward in the first 20 minutes. Great football played from the middle and a lovely pass to Courtney who took a touch and smashed it into the top right hand corner smashing goal for our scuttle. 2-0 the ball literally flew in.
Carrick came out fighting and putting pressure on our back four unfortunately for the ladies Carricks forwards played well and scored 2-1. This goal seemed to unsettle the 2s for a few minutes but the heads where lifted and everyone came out fighting and working well together as always. Unfortunatley vickys injury she was carrying started to show and without her at her best ability at the back the 2s where lost. A lucky pass for Carrick and their girl was in on goal making it 2-2.

HT

During the break the ladies heads where lifted with encouragement from the sidelines this gave them the boost they needed. Changes where made due to having no subs and Vicky being injured this seen Ashleigh drop back and Vicky move forward.

Second half begins. Again the 2s came out giving their all and putting pressure on the Carrick midfield and wings. Great play from Chelsea on the right and Tanya in the centre. Which saw great passes made to katrina, Courtney and Vicky unlucky for Vicky she could not chase down the fast ball and have a shot on goal.
Unforntualey Carrick broke quickly and put the pressure on. The 2s stopped for an offside call and the Carrick player ran on to deliver it into the back of the 2s net. 3-2 Carrick.
The 2s continued to push but it wasn't meant to be when Carrick broke again and made it 4-2. The ladies became frustrated but their team spirit didn't stop. They continued to push. 2 fresh players on for Carrick from their sub list made the back 4 of 22nd feel the pressure, good clearances from both katelyn and Sam on each side kept the 2s settled. Unfortanley Carrick broke again and after another offside call the ref waved it away and Carricks forward put it past Jo. 5-2.
Great saves from jo throughout the match kept the 22nd I'm the game fantastic runs made of her line at times. Another break from Carrick after the ball bounced over a 22nd head and landed at the feet of a Carrick player who made a great run and pass to their forward who calmly slotted it past the 22nd keeper making it 6-2.
22nd fought to the end and didn't lose their fighting spirit a great game and a great battle for the 2s despite having no subs and 3 players still carrying injuries from previous matches.

FT match ended 6-2 Carrick

22nd Ladies 5-3 Mountjoy Utd

A hatrick for forward Katrina Montgomery and two goals for Laura Keatings was enough for 22nd to claim their second win of the season in an entertaining 5-3 game at the boys model.
The first came after 12 minutes, when Montgomery got the ball out on the right wing, beat her marker and fired acorss a pinpoint cross into the box for Keatings to run on to and smash home the opener past a helpless Karen Caldwell in the Mountjoy goal.
Bouyed by the early goal, 22nd pushed on and started to control the game, with the young team from Omagh struggling to deal with the power and technique of Montgomery in the final third of the pitch.
It wasn't long before the second came, when Caldwell came out to clear a ball and it fell to Montgomery who was 30 yards out and hit the ball over the defender on the line and into the top of the net to double the lead.
The forward had a chance to score another in the 32nd minute when she bundled her way through the Mountjoy defence, but before she could pull the trigger rightback Ceri Nessbitt manged to slide in and clear the ball.
The third came in the 37th minute, when midfielder Tanya Bonner delivered a perfect cross onto the head on Montgomery from a corner and she thumped it past Calwell. It was deja va four minutes later as Bonner again hit an inch perfect corner to Montgomery who again bundled home to complete her hatrick and make it 4-0.
It wasnt as on sided a game as the scorline made it out to be though, and Mountjoy weren't lying down either. They pulled one back on the stroke of halftime, when Sophie Smith got through and manged to squirm a shot under keeper Billie-Jo Kitson from a tight angle.

The second half seen the introduction of mountjoy striker Sophie McCrory in what appeared to tactical shift from the manager. It seemed to work well, as Mountjoy had the majority of the play in the opening period of the second half, but were unable to break down a defence containing the impressive Jade Spence and captain Vicky Thompson.
They nearly did pull another back on 55 minutes though when McCrory hit in a free kick that required a good block by Kitson, who did well to get up and block the rebound from Caragh Tarney from a tight angle.
They kept pressing though and did get another on 65 min when some good play seen McCrory get the ball and squeeze it home from a tight angle to make it 4-2.
22nd knew they needed to stop the mountjoy avance, and that one more goal would go a long way to sealing the victory. It came soon after, in the 68th minute, in rather fortuitous circumstances when Caldwell came out to clear a ball and her clearance smashed into the face of Keatings who was closing her down. It proved to be crucial, as the ball rolled towards the open goal, and crossed the line before the keeper could get back to make it 5-2.
McCrory pulled another back in the 73rd minute when she beat the 22ndoffside trap to sidefoot confidently past Kitson, but it wasnt enough as 22nd were able to see out the rest of the game rather comfortably, with Kitson only called into action once, making a brilliant save and holding a shot that was rocketed towards her at point blank range.

Manager Brian Kirker was delighted with the win: “We played well in the first half tonight. But Mountjoy came right back in the game in the second half. They made it hard for us, even though we were 4-0 up at one point. We got the crucial 5th goal at the right time, which gave them to big a mountan to climb. For a club in its first season in existence every win is important. Hopefully we can use this victory as momentum to push into our next game.
Both teams are at home to Rangers in their next fixture, with Mountjoy hosting them on Monday evening before they travel to 22nd next Thursday night.

Shamrock Ladies 7-1 22nd Ladies

After last week's disappointment the ladies looked to bounce back against the same opposition. With a few missing due to injury and work the Ladies got of to a flying start when some nice place saw Courtney scuttle through and unleash a drive that flew like seagull into the top corner 1-0 22nd. Moments later more 22nd pressure saw Ashley shoot from some 30 yards only to see her shot rebound of the bar. Unfortunately a lapse in concentration saw Shamrock equalise and take the lead within minutes 2-1 Shamrock. The ladies kept working and the back four got to grips with the Shamrock strikers. Going forward Laura was doing a good job leading the line. Chelsea and Sam worked hard wide and were unfortunate not to get through on goal themselves. Tanya and Ashley playing a deeper roll worked hard in the midfield trying to combat a strongShsmrock midfield. The Ladies tried to force an equaliser but time ran out 2-1 HT.

The second half started brightly for the 22nd playing some nice football but unfortunately Shamrock struck to make it 3-1. Minutes later a soft penalty decision saw Shamrock make it 4. It looked to be 5 only for Billi-jo to make a flying save to her right. Again more Shamrock pressure saw ball bounce over Billi-jo but Jade to the rescue clearing what looked like a certain goal. Some nice play between Courtney and Laura saw Laura through in goal only for her shot to be saved by the keeper. With the keeper out of position Tanya tried a well aimed chip from 35 yards on for it to rebound of the post. The Ladies took some hope from this and pushed on and Ashley saw a great drive dip just over the bar. Olivia and Vicky worked hard at the back making some good clearances with Katelyn and Jade at full back defending well against some good players. Unfortunately shamrock made it 6-1. Chelsea continued to work tirelessly up and down the left wing putting in a good shift. A pass to the Rock (Jade) saw the Rock crumble. She fell over the ball releasing Shamrock to make it 7. The game drew to a close and with plenty of positives to take forward into next week's game v Mountjoy Utd.

Shamrock Ladies 12-1 22nd Ladies

22nd Ladies playing in their first ever cup game lined up v Shamrock at Bone Hill. Shamrock quickly took control of the game scoring 3 early goals to take a commanding lead. A combination of poor 22nd defending and good play by Shamrock saw them score twice more making it 5. Unfortunately Olivia had to come of with a recurring knee injury. Replaced by Jade who was on the bench because she thought Shamrock from Ardoyne played at Lisburn !! (we are currently still trying to locate her brain, might well be in Lisburn).

Straight after Olivias injury Hayley went over on her ankle with a sickening crack. Straight away it was apparent she had broken it. Shamrock and a nurse from the side line helped best they could and an ambulance arrived to take away the unfortunate Hayley. The girls took the decision to play on for Hayley.

Jade adding some steel to the defence along with Laura. The half finished 5-0.

The second half started with Shamrock on the offensive and 22nd making mistake after mistake. But to the 22nd Ladies credit they keep going. Unfortunately Shamrock ran in 5 nor goals to make it 10. Then a a ray of sunshine in a bad night. Tanya happy feet Bonner curled a free kick from 25 yards on to the top corner. 10-1. Shamrock ran in 2 more before the end to make it 12-1 and earn a much deserved victory. We wish them well in the semi-final and again thank them for their help with our seriously injured player.

Mountjoy United Ladies 6-2 22nd Ladies

22nd made the long trip down to Omagh with high expectations after last week's win over Carrick Ladies. The game began on a very slippery surface after heavy rain and with Mountjoy on the attack. Within 10 mins Mountjoy were 3-0 up after a catalogue of errors in the 22nd defence. The ladies all over the place was an understatement. But credit to Mountjoy they capitalised and took their chances. The 2's found the massive pitch and the young fit opposition hard to contain. Olivia and Jade battled hard at the back to keep the 2's I the game and Sam worked hard on the right to try and relieve pressure. Eventually the Ladies got going and started to come into the game. Laura got lots of space down the left with Tanya and Ashley starting to got to grips with the midfield battle. The 2's hot a lifeline when a good cross found big bird (Sam) flying in at the back post to give the 2's some hope. 3-1. The ladies battled on to half time but neither team created much more.

Management let a few know they weren't happy at half time. Lack of composure and fight was highlighted. Big Britney also made two changes to try and change the game on more time.

The second half started with the 22nd playing much better and with a better tempo. It wasn't long before they got their 2nd. Sam placed the ball towards the net and Kaitlyn doing her best to steal it. But fortunately for Sam it rolled over the line, 3-2. The 22nd sensed the game was there for the taking. A succession of corners from Tanya were almost converted each time. But Mountjoy rode their luck and weathered the storm. The 2's kept pushing but unfortunately Olivia who was playing very well and was subject to a series of fouls was forced of with a knee injury. Kirsty and Vicky both on at half time done their best but as 22nd pushed to equalise Mountjoy broke away to make it 4-2 and effectively kill the game. Mountjoy found the net a further 2 times as the 22nd were a beaten and exhausted team. But to their credit they kept going to the end with Chelsea and Kathy giving some much needed energy. A disappointing result and performance but another step on our journey. We look forward to next week to try to turn things around.

Carrick Ladies 2-3 22nd Ladies

The 22nd travelled down to Carrick on a scorching hot night still looking their first league points. Before the game the referee agreed with coaches for a drink break after 20 mins in each half.

The game started and straight away the 2's were on the front foot pitting pressure on the Carrick back four. Both teams played some nice stuff and the Carrick keeper called into action early saving a good long range effort from Katrina. The Carrick no9 looked dangerous in the middle of midfield but Ashley and Tanya worked hard to keep her at bay. Carrick broke through but Billi-jo quickly of her line to save well. The back four of Katelyn, Jade, Hayley and Olivia looked very comfortable. Sam and Laura run the wings well putting the Carrick full backs under a lot of pressure. The first drink break came at 0-0. During this break the Ladies were encouraged to pass and support. With Ashley given a job to do on Carrick no9. Unfortunately after the break a defensive mix up saw Jafe smash a clearance into a player and it fell kindly for Carrick striker who finished calmly to make it 1-0. This seemed to rally the Ladies and Katrina saw a long range effort tipped up in the air by the Carrick keeper. It looked to have crossed the line but the keeper hot the benefit of the doubt making a great recovery save. But the 22nd pressed on and got their reward when from 25 yards Katrina unleashed a great drive into the roof of the net (what a hit)1-1. The 2's with their tails up pressed on and after some good link up play Courtney looked all set to put the 2's in front only for a last ditch tackle to thwart her. Again Laura and Sam both looked dangerous down the wings, with Tanya and Ashley taking control of midfield. Half time came to soon for the 22nd 1-1.

Encouragement, water and oranges at half time sent the 2's out invigorated and they quickly took control. The passing started to come together nicely and with the back four solid it looked only a matter of time before the 22nd made their pressure pay. Katrina with a couple of powerful runs was stopped at last minute. But the next goal came from happy feet Tanya. She cooly lifted a left foot shot from 20 yards over the keeper into the far corner 2-1 22nd. The girls were delighted but we're encouraged to calm and keep their heads. This they done to their credit and more. Some lovely football saw a good ball across goal slotted home by Ashley to make it 3-1 22nd. The ladies continued to press on and a lovely move down the left saw a great cross from substitute Kaitlyn leaving the impressive Courtney with a tap in from 4 yards. Or so you would think with the goal at her mercy she got distracted by a sea gull some 50 feet up and instead of putting the ball in the net she tried to kill it. Result goal kick. The 22nd went from comfortable to nervy when the impeccable back four and keeper managed to get mixed up and presented Carrick with a late gift to make it 3-2. But credit to the Ladies they held their nerve and showed some good maturity to see out the final minutes to get their first ever league win.

22nd Ladies 1-7 Crewe Utd Ladies

The 2's forced into numerous changes through injury started the game brightly. But within minutes Crewe broke through out rushed 22nd keeper to make a great save only to get clattered. The 2's tried to get her patched back up but unfortunately she was to groggy to continue. Hayley stepped forward and took the gloves.
The 2's were unlucky not to take the lead when Courtney nearly broke through. About 20mins in an unfortunate hand ball by Chelsea gave Crewe a penalty. Which they made no mistake from 1-0 Crewe.
A terrible mix up saw Crewe break through within minutes to make it 2-0 and poor defending from a corner saw Crewe make it 3.
Tanya was showing sime lovely touches in centre midfield and passing. The 2's rallied with Samantha and Laura coming close but this was short lived as Crewe scored again through a 22nd mistake 4-0.
Half time couldn't come soon enough for 22nd management so they could get them in and reorganise.

Half time saw the ladies get a bit of a rollicking and a few home truths. Poor mistakes and lack of effort. Positives were going forward we always looked dangerous.

Second half started with the ladies digging in with Jade and Olivia at the back stepping up and starting to win their battles. Courtney again linking well with Katrina who chased and worked very hard. Unfortunately Crewe made it 5-0 through another error.
Katrina getting a bit of rough treatment turned her marker beat two more raced through and finished cooly to make it 5-1 (another very good goal).
Injuries continued to mount for 22nd with Samantha forced off Rachel took her place and showed some nice touches and linked well with Katrina going forward. Olivia struggling with a calf injury battled on with some important challenges and clearances playing through the pain. Unfortunately Crewe added a 6th.
Ashley was forced off with a shoulder injury reducing the 2's to 10 men having made their changes and Crewe sealing a convincing win late on to make it 7-1. A poor display from our ladies, but they can't be good every week. We go again next week with improvement a must.

22nd Ladies 3-7 CSP Ladies

The game started with CSP on top putting a lot of pressure on the 22nd goal. A good save from the 2's keeper kept the score level. The 22nd back four under pressure eventually were breached 1-0 CSP.
The 2's battled on with Ashley and Tanya combining well in midfield. Chelsea took a bad bang to the head but was able to get up and battle on. Courtney worked very hard in the no10. position and linked up well with Katrina. It's was a good through ball that found Katrina who from distance thrashed an unstoppable shot past the CSP keeper to level. 1-1
CSP rallied and again took the lead with a good finish from distance and added a third quickly to make it 3-1
But the 2's didn't lie down a corner wiped in by Tanya was met by Katrina who powered a thumping header home to make it 3-2
Minutes later a great through ball from Courtney released Katrina who bearing down on goal made no mistake to equalise 3-3
The 22nd pressed and Ashley saw a long range shot saved and Katrina battled through 3 challenges only to see the keeper save well to keep it level. CSP broke away just before the half to restore their lead 4-3 at HT.

The second half started with CSP grabbing an early goal to make it 5-3
The 2's battled on and angry Vicky appeared again letting a few people know she was around. Though she had to be recalled to CB on one occasion when the blood was up. 22nd made their changes and the ever reliable Olivia went to CB after Hayley took over in goals after our keeper got  injured. Kaitlyn started to grow into the game on the left and Sam coming on the right added much need work. Katelyn replacing the injured Kirsty at full back made some good challenges. The 22nd kept battling but unfortunately CSP grabbed a 6th. Kaitlyn went close and Katrina nearly scored again from a corner. Vicky unfortunately went over on her ankle and right at the death CSP made it 7-3 .

Limavady Ladies 5-3 22nd Ladies

After a long trip down from Belfast the game kicked off in glorious sunshine. 22nd pressed forward but Limavady defended well and the game flowed from end to end. Billi-jo was called to make an early save and the Limavady no.9 gave the 22nd defence a hard time. Limavady took the lead when the 2's switched off from a corner allowing Limavady to head home 1-0
Limavady grew into the game and added a second quickly after 2-0
The 2's were unlucky not to equalise with some nice play down the left with Tanya, Olivia combining to release Kaitlyn who crossed dangerously into the box. Unfortunately Katrina and Laura couldn't connect to finish what would have been a great team goal. Jade and Tanya battled hard in midfield with Kirsty doing a great job on the Limavady no.9. Limavady added a third goal to make it 3-0 and looked comfortable.
It looked to get even worse when Olivia brought down Limavady full back in the box and the ref pointed to the spot. The full back dusted herself down and stepped up to hit the pen.....she drove it straight and high but Billi-Jo reacted superbly and tipped it onto the bar and Vicky cleared the danger. The 2's battled through to halftime without troubling the Limavady keeper.

At halftime a few home truths were told and the coaches pointed out what was expected from each player.

The second half the 2's came out of the blocks strong and started to play some good stuff. The coaches made a few changes and this seemed to change the game. A great run by Chelsea, on for the injured Samantha, and an equally super through ball released Katrina who promptly finished in the far corner to make it 3-1
Ashley's introduction into midfield for the injured Laura started to pay off as she put together some nice passes. A through ball again saw Katrina bearing down on goal only for her to be brought down in the box. The ref pointed to the spot. Up stepped Katrina......no mistake into the corner, 3-2 and game on.
The 2's pushed for the equaliser and angry Vicky at the back was taking no prisoners. Both Vicky and Hayley looked impressive and very strong. Katrina went down in the box again but the ref waved away 22nd appeals for a second penalty. Unfortunately a lapse in concentration from the superb Billi-Jo saw her drop a cross and Limavady tapped home, 4-2
But great credit to the 2's, Courtney making a real difference was working well with Katrina and released her on the right. Katrina cut inside and curled a left footed effort into the far corner to make it 4-3 game on again.
Bill-jo called into action again to make a superb one handed save to keep the 22nd in the game. The 2's pushed Kirsty into midfield to try and press for an equaliser. But unfortunately with all subs made Jade went over on her ankle and had to come off hurt. Limavady put the game to bed when their tall no11 scored a screamer from 25 yards into the roof of the net to make it 5-3
The ladies never gave up and battled to the end and were very unfortunate not to get a point tonight. But onto the next one and the learning curve continues.

Belfast Celtic Ladies 8-1 22nd Ladies

A famous night for the 22nd as the ladies played their first ever competitive league game v Belfast Celtic Ladies.

The game started as quite an even contest with both sides probing each other for weaknesses. An early chance fell to Samantha when through on goal she rounded the keeper but just over ran the ball. Celtic pressed using their strength and pace down both wings. They created a couple of opportunities but Billi-Jo was either quick of her line to save or the impressive 22nd  fullbacks Olivia and Kirsty kept them at bay.
The 22nd were unfortunate not to score when a Tanya free kick dropped just over the bar. Katrina and Rachel looked very dangerous going forward with Samantha and Chelsea supporting her from wide. Eventually Celtic took the lead through a well worked goal down the left.
The 22nd Ladies kept their heads though and after the keeper saved another Tanya free kick Katrina bundled in the rebound only to be blown offside. Jade battled hard in centre midfield and the centre back pairing of Hayley and Vicky looked solid. Celtic missed a couple of opportunities and Billi-Jo made a couple of smart saves just before half time. 1-0 HT.

The second half started with Celtic applying the pressure. But the 2's held out and always looked dangerous on the break. Rachel looked to have been fouled when in a dangerous position but the ref waved appeals away and moments later awarded Celtic a penalty when Vicky was adjudged to have fouled in the box. Up stepped their striker to smash home 2-0 Celtic.
The 2's made a couple of changes but unfortunately Celtic worked a good third goal 3-0. But credit to the ladies they never gave up and a great pass released Katrina and from 25 yards she finished superbly past the Celtic keeper to make it 3-1 and get the girls back in the game.
Unfortunately the joy was short lived as around the 70 minute mark Celtic added a fourth 4-1. Courtney was working hard in behind Katrina and Kathy came on on the wing to add much needed energy. From a corner the 22nd coach shouted watch the big girl at the back. A comment that had him duly shouted at, by said player during a break in play much to the amusement of the referee (a lesson in there). Olivia was forced off with an injury and Katelyn coming onto fullback done very well against a good player. Laura took up some good positions down the left and was unfortunate not to find herself through on goal only for a good tackle. The Ladies battled on but started to tire badly with Jade battling hard making a couple of good last ditch challenges. But Celtic ran in 4 more goals in the closing minutes to make it 8-1 and a deserving victory for them. But a great improvement by the 22nd Ladies with things going in the right direction. The future is definitely bright for the Ladies.

22nd Ladies 0-3 Carrick Ladies

The 22nd Ladies finished their first ever futsol competition in the Shankill Leisure centre playing against familiar foes Carrick Ladies. The game started with the 22nd on the front foot creating openings but as in games before found the Carrick keeper in fine form making save after save. Jade worked hard at the back with Olivia and Carly putting in hard yards in midfield and Kaitlyn causing problems for Carrick up front. Tanya made her 22nd debut showing some nice football work on the left getting in a few good good shots. Kirsty made some good tackles along with Sophie in midfield. But for all the 22nd pressure it was Carrick who broke and finished past Billi-Jo 1-0.
The 2's tried to battle back but as hard as we tried we couldn't supply Chelsea or Danielle with any opportunities. Carrick once more broke away and finished well to make it 2.
Samantha coming back from injury worked hard in the middle but to no avail. HT 2-0.

The 2nd half started with 22nd putting on a lot of pressure but to be fair to Carrick they defended very well. It was Carrick who struck with a long range effort evading Billi-Jo to make it 3-0.
The 2's pressed hard and saw the Carrick keeper make a string of good saves from Kaitlyn, Carly, Tanya and Samantha. The 22nd kept up the pressure and Carrick kept up the great defending. Even 1 of the refs remarked "it's not your day in front of goal". Credit to the girls they never stopped and worked to the final whistle 3-0 Carrick.

 22nd Ladies 3-2 Carrick Ladies

First game back after Christmas saw us playing Carrick Ladies. But before the game started both sides observed a minutes silence for young Dempsey who tragically lost her life to cancer. The game started with the 22nd on the front foot from the off. They battled hard and created lots of opportunities with the Carrick keeper making good saves from Carly, Kaitlyn, Olivia and Kirsty. Kaitlyn thought she had scored when she lobed the keeper but her chip bounced of the cross bar. The dead lock was eventually broken when some good work saw Katelyn squeeze the ball in at the near post for a good finish 1-0 22nd.

The 2's continued to push with Jade snuffing out any opportunities for Carrick. Kaitlyn again looked like she would score only to see her shot rebound of the post. Eventually Kaitlyn got her reward for all the saves the Carrick keeper had made by finishing through her legs to make it 2-0

Carly battled well in midfield along with Katelyn and Olivia with kirsty and Jade keeping the door closes at the back. 2-0 HT

The second half started again with 22nd on the attack but Carrick looking dangerous on the break. A fierce shot from near half way smashed into 22nd post much to the relief of Vicky. Olivia and Kirsty were unlucky not to score with a good effort each. Some neat play saw the ball break for Danielle who near burst the net with an unstoppable finish 3-0 22nd.

To Carrick's credit they battled back with 2 quick goals capitalising in on 22nd poor marking to make it 3-2

It looked like Carrick might equalise but a great save from Vicky kept 2's in front. Jade battled away at the back and the 2's managed to see out the game to win 3-2.

Ladies 2-7 Lurgan Ladies

The last of their group games saw 22nd play Lurgan. Lurgan started very strong and quickly took the lead 1-0. Two more quick goals for Lurgan saw their lead stretch to 3-0 for which Annie in nets was very unfortunate. Jade battled away at the back with Olivia and it was Jade with a long-range effort which squeezed past the keeper to make it 3-1. 22nds sensing an opportunity to get back in the game pressed on and they got their reward when Carly broke clear and finished coolly to make it 3-2. This really lifted the Ladies and Katelyn was very unfortunate not to equalise twice. HT 3-2 Lurgan.

The second half started and again Lurgan started well with two quick goals to make it 5-2. Vicky and Samantha played some nice interchanges with both unfortunate not to score. At last a chance fell to Kaitlyn who caught her shot well only to see it saved. With Billi-Jo in goal making a couple of very good saves and Annie adding some much needed bite the 22nd tried to get back in the game. Unfortunately, twice Lurgan broke and clinically scored to make it 7-2.

22nd Ladies 0-2 Carnmoney Ladies

The match kicked off at a good pace, there was great two touch football by the 22nd ladies and they created a few early opportunities, narrowly missing the goal... Carnmoney ladies matched the 22nd and played some great football, having quite a few shots on target. The 22nd ladies defended and battled well all over the pitch, and continued to create openings, Carly Payne struck the post right before half time. The score remained at 0-0 going into half time.

Again, at the start of the second half, the 22nd ladies were on the front foot, some quick football and creating chances, with Olivia McKee & Samantha Lloyd having quite a few shots on target, unfortunately saved by Carnmoney’s goal keeper. Carnmoney stole the ball in the middle of the park, and with a fantastic counter attack, they slotted a goal in to the top corner. 1-0 Carnmoney Ladies.

The 22nd ladies continued to battle hard, with Jade Spence bossing the back line, winning the majority of the tackles that came her way... There was also some great hold up play by the forwards, bringing players into the game allowing them to get shots off... As the game went on Carnmoney got more of a grasp of the game, playing high pace and intelligent football. Their experience shown through, when they again counter attacked and slotted a second goal in. 2-0 Carnmoney ladies right before the final whistle.

Overall a great effort and performance from the 22nd ladies... More experience and another big learning curve for all the girls. Fitness is improving and the defending as much better than the previous week. Onto next one

22nd Ladies 1-13 Comber Ladies

After their first competitive win last week, the ladies faced Comber Ladies in their third group game. The game started quite even but you could see immediately the quality on the ball Comber had. They worked very hard with neat passing and the 2's battled hard with Vicky Jade and Olivia working their socks of and Jo making a couple of good early stops in goal. However, the deadlock was broke with a neat finish from Comber to make it 1-0

they quickly added a two more to make it 3-0 and their passing was very slick.

Kaitlyn up top got very little ball and no real opportunities. 22nd made some changes and Comber capitalised and got 3 more goals 1 after the other 6-0. The ladies battled hard and Samantha squeezed a shot through the defender’s legs and beyond the keeper into the far corner 6-1. Danielle was holding the ball up well trying to bring Chelsea and Carly into the game but Comber added another before the break to make it 7-1 HT.

The second half started with Vicky in goal and she was called into action quickly making a couple of early saves Jade and Olivia battled hard at the back with everyone working hard. But unfortunately, Comber got 3 more goals on quick succession 10-1.

Katelyn.S made some good challenges and the ladies worked tirelessly for each other. Kaitlyn again got very few chances and anything was quickly snuffed out by Comber defence. The 22nd Ladies tried hard but to be honest Comber were very good all over the pitch and ran in 3 more goals before the end to make it 13-1 and thoroughly deserved their victory.

 22nd Ladies 2-1 Carrick Ladies

The 22nd started the 2nd game of their group on the front foot. Lots of possession and creating opportunities with Olivia regularly pushing through to link with Sam and Carly. They found the Carrick keeper in good form as she made several good saves. With Jade solid at the back and with players rotated on 22nd still pressed. As always football is not that straight forward and against the run of play Carrick scored to take the lead 1-0

This seemed to jolt Carrick into action and they put on a lot of pressure drawing some fine saves from Vicky. Sophie and Joanne made some telling interceptions and Chelsea providing the energy. Danielle came on to hold the ball up but unfortunately couldn't get any of her big shots away. Katelyn and Jade battled at the back and the 2's managed to get in to the half just 1 behind. 1-0 HT.

The 2nd half started with the 2's pressing and Olivia came close on a number of occasions as did Chelsea. The 2's piled on the pressure but still Carrick keeper kept them at bay. Jade and Kirsty had to be on their toes as Carrick looked dangerous on the break. At last the pressure told and Jade strode forward onto a loose ball to smash it home 1-1

The 22nd piled forward looking the winner Danielle holding ball up and bringing players in round her. As time ticked away the ball bounced awkwardly and Carly rounded the Carrick keeper to put the 2's in front. 2-1 22nd

Carrick were visibly deflated and tried to push for an equaliser but 22nd looked to wrap it up when Samantha through on goal was unfortunate not to finish as was Carly moments later. The 22nd side line were very anxious as the clock ticked on but the girls managed to hang on and record their first ever competitive win. Hopefully the start of many.

22nd Ladies 4-3 St James Ladies

The game started in baltic conditions at Mounty under the lights. An early foul on Kirsty saw temperatures rise but the game carried on in a great spirit. The 2's took the lead when Kaitlyn found herself through on goal and calmly finish 1-0 22nd.

Some good tackles were made in midfield by Carly and Annie who battled tirelessly. St James leveled when a corner wasn't cleared and their midfielder cooly finished in the corner 1-1

With Chelsea and Kirsty working hard on the right a new Samantha linking with Kaitlyn pressure on the St James back line forced a mistake and Kaitlyn pounced to make it 2-1 22nd

St James put on a lot of pressure 4 corners in a row but 22nd defended stoutly with Vicky, Katelyn, Kirsty and Billi-Jo hard to beat. At the other end a great corner from Kirsty was met by Samantha but her powerful header went narrowly past the top corner. Right on the half it looked like St James might break through but a last ditch tackle by Kirsty W saved the day but she collided badly with Annie. Fortunately both recovered over HT.

The 2nd half started with 2's on the attack and quickly Annie thought she had scored but the Eagle eyed ref spotted an off side and ruled the goal out. With Sophie on some some nice touches and Danielle holding the ball up it wasn't long before 22nd extended their lead with Kaitlyn grabbing a hat trick by firing past the keeper 3-1

A piece of controversy followed when again the Sharpe eyed ref spotted Vicky handle the ball and pointed to the spot. Up stepped the St James striker to face Billi-Jo.... but Billi-Jo threw herself to her left and made a great save. Unfortunately the St James striker reacted quickest to the rebound to finish and make it 3-2

Time was ticking on and encouraged by their vocal support St James pressed looking an equaliser but Kaitlyn to the rescue again with a great finish from 25 yards over the keeper 4-2 22nd

Just when everyone thought that was that up popped St James midfielder to smash a great shot over Billi-Jo to make it 4-3 right on the final whistle and the 22nd Ladies had their 1st ever win.

22nd Ladies 3-12 Chimney Corner Ladies

22nd Ladies got ready for their first ever competitive game with a minutes silence to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in conflicts around the world along with Chimney Corner.

The game as expected got off at a frantic pace and Chimney Corner on the front foot. Vicky came to the 2's rescue in nets with a couple of good saves but an unfortunate slip from Jade saw Chimney Corner player fire into the corner 1-0. It wasn't long before it was to with an unfortunate deflection taking it past the helpless Vicky 2-0. A change or two was made and Jade hard as nails at the back winning everything along with Olivia drove the 2's on. Samantha hunted down the Chimney Corner keeper and slipped in the 22nd Ladies first ever goal 2-1. Moments later it was 2-2 when Katelyn stuck a shot through the legs of the Chimney Corner player and I to the far corner. Vicky made another good save but Chimney Corner took the lead with a good strike to make it 3-2. Annie working tirelessly up and down the pitch and Chelsea, Kirsty pushing Chimney Corner Ladies hard Jade managed to break through and make it 3-3. Unfortunately another good strike saw Chimney Corner go back in front 4-3. Just before the break Carly was denied when the keeper made a good stop. 4-3 HT and a great 1st half by the Ladies.

The 2nd half again started quickly and the 2's were caught on their heels with Chimney Corner scoring 3 quick goals that knocked the stuffing outta the Ladies. It looked like a good pass had put Danielle through but before she could get off her cannon of a shot the defender recovered to make a tackle. Tiredness kicked in but the Ladies battled on and were very unfortunate to conceded a few late goals and Jade continued to dominate at the back making some crucial and thumping tackles to keep us in the game.

Charity Game for Cancer Focus
Woodvale Park

22nd had a slow start to the game struggling to settle and keep their shape. This lead to the councillors breaking and scoring the first goal. From then the ladies became more focused and settled quickly into the game.

22nd played well in midfield but again the councillors made a great break and brought it up to 2-0.

After a few minutes 22nd made a great run and Carly put the ball in the back of the net making it 2-1 from then we knew this had given the ladies a great boost and more confidence on the pitch.

Again the councillors made a great run but it wasn't meant to be a great shot saved by Billi-Jo kept the councillors at 2-1. The 2s made a great break again with a brilliant ball passed from Carly to Samantha up front who was able to take it past the keeper to bring it level. 2-2

Both wingers Olivia and Chelsea played some brilliant football to recover the ball and hold the councillors back and worked well together down both sides some brilliant football played by both girls.

Unfortunately for the ladies the councillors hit back and scored another 2 goals this only made the 2s more determined to push themselves more. 4-2 BCC

Jade worked well at the back keeping the defenders in check and made some good calls and passes up the pitch along with Vicky who made some great runs. Kirsty made some great recoveries along with Joanne out on the right. And Maggie in the centre making some great runs when needed.

The 2s hit back playing some great football in the middle which allowed Carly to break and score another goal making it 4-3.

The councillors pressed but a tackle from the 2s on Guy Spence give away a free kick outside the box. A great shot from Guy was saved by Billi-Jo to keep it at 4-3.

Councillors pressed again making a great run down the right hand side making it 5-3. The 2s settled again and played some brilliant football on the left giving Annie the chance to make a run which lead her to making it 5-4 for the 2s.

Another great run from the 2s through the centre with a good touch from Carly bringing the match level. 5-5 HALF TIME

The 2s gathered and changed it up slightly at half time.

Councillors came back into the game and made a very quick break on goal scoring another one. 22nd then pressed back and where unfortunate when a shot from Samantha went wide and the left post. 6-5

The councillors broke again but Jade made a great recovery of the ball and played it up field the councillors hit back with a great recovery and made another great break with another goal making it 7-5 to BCC.

The ladies spirits where still high and they continued to focus on the game a great pass out to Katelyn on the left from Danielle allowed her time for a shot on goal which thankfully for the 2s hit the back of the net bringing it up to 7-6.

The 2s pressed up the pitch again and won a corner, a great ball played into the box unfortunately dropped to the councillors feet which lead them to score an own goal. Making the match level at 7-7.

Again the councillors pressed and played some great football out on the right hand side leading to another goal bringing the match to 8-7. The 2s knew time was running out and wanted an equaliser so they pushed up field and played a great pass out to the left to Katelyn who played a great ball into Danielle who brought the game Level. 8-8 FULL TIME

A great match for a great cause, everyone at 22nd would like to thank Belfast City Councillors for taking part especially Julie-Anne Corr Johnston and Jolene Bunting for their help and support. Once all funds are in we will put the total raised on our website and Facebook pages.

East Belfast Ladies Tournament

4th September 2016

Ashfield Boys School

Group A

22nd Ladies 0-1 Killyleagh

This game started very scrappily with both teams struggling to settle. Some good battles developed in the midfield where most of the play was. The 22nd suffered an early blow when Kirsty Wynne had to go off ill.

The 22nd were growing into the game but then suffered a sucker punch when Killyleagh broke and their striker got lucky with the ball bobbling through Billi-Jo's legs. The 22nd pressed and were unfortunate not to equalise when Carlys shot was well saved. The 2's pushed but no joy game finished 1-0

East Belfast 2-0 22nd Ladies

The East started off well putting 22nd under pressure and Billi-Jo making a good save. Jade and Olivia defended very well but the East took the lead from a corner. A flick sneaking in at back post 1-0.

East doubled their lead with a good strike into the corner. 2-0.

Billi-Jo made another good save to keep the score to 2-0. The 22nd pushed and a great opportunity for glory fell to Danielle who, with the net at her mercy, scewed her shot wide. The game finished 2-0.

22nd Ladies 0-0 St Oliver Plunkett

The game started with 22nd on the front foot, Chelsea dominating play and Samantha seeing a couple of good efforts go just over the bar. 22nd thought they had gone in front but the Plunkett keeper made a great save from Annie's free kick.

The 22nd pushed hard and Jade, Olivia and Chelsea were solid at the back with Carly and Annie working very hard in midfield unfortunately we couldn't get the winner. 0-0

Bangor 2-0 22nd Ladies

We went into our last game knowing a draw would see us through. We were up against a very good Bangor side and early on, Billi-Jo made a good save to keep it level. The 2's pressed forward with Danielle and Annie but with no joy.

A slick Bangor move and a good finish saw them take the lead. 1-0. The 22nd were caught again with a good finish to make it 2-0.

The Ladies battled to the end but unfortunately it wasn't to be. Was a good day and great effort by the Ladies who were unlucky to be eliminated by a single goal on goal average.
