Comber Rec U17's v 22nd Old Boys U17's

Boys started playing into the breeze and knocking the ball about well. Coist was deputising well in nets clearing his line when needed but had little to do. Big Mason controlled the ball in midfield and slid a super pass through the Comber defence. Millsy ran onto it, waited for the keeper to commit then dinked him beautifully, 1-0 22nd. The boys kept pushing and won a free kick. One of the strangest free kicks you will see resulted in Aaron breaking down the right. His vital back led to a goal mouth scramble and a hand ball on the line, penalty ! Up stepped Dougie to dispatch the spot kick, 2-0 22nd. The boys seen out the half quite comfortably.

Second half continued our dominance and we created a few openings but just couldnt take them. Coist was called to make a couple of good saves to keep us two up. A 22nd free kick some 35 yards out was smashed into the roof of the Comber net to make it 3-0. The boys then took the foot of a bit and let Comber into the game. We gave away a free kick and the Comber striker smashed it over Coist into the roof of the net, 3-1. The boys then flapped a wee bit but eventually got their composure back and seen the game out. Even after Coist got the handbag out to their striker. Job done 3 points in opening group game and hopefully no one caught the Corona Virus 🙈.

The Hammer
22nd Old Boys U17's 2-0 Carnmoney DFC

A cold Saturday morning saw us start slowly, with both teams not really showing their quality. Eventually we started to get going and played some nice stuff. From a set play we forced the ball a good 2 yards over the Carnmoney line only for the ref who's positioning was very questionable to unbelievably rule it hadn't crossed the line (one of the worse decisions I've ever witnessed). But credit to the lads we didn't let it annoy us and a change saw Jamie Close pressed further forward. We ran onto a nice pass from Dougie and rifled the ball into the top corner, great hit kid, 1-0 22nd. We kept cutting them open down the right but couldn't pick out a striker with a cross. Both teams battled to the half but we kept our cool and went in 1-0 up.

Second half saw us come out quick and a scramble saw Millsy with a nice finish into the far corner to make it 2-0. The boys settled down and made a few changes. Big Mason showing some nice feet shot just wide from distance, with shiner heard saying "thank goodness I'd never have heard the end of that". A long ball saw The Simpy burst between the centre backs brushing them aside by using his strength and power. He then lashed a ferocious effort which dipped just over the bar. What a goal that would of been and we would never have heard the end of that ! We kept working hard and to be fair we saw the game out to claim another 3 points in our quest to catch the top 2.

The Hammer
22nd Old Boys U17's v Sirocco U17's

First game of the new year saw us under the lights at the Hammer. Game started off scrappy with both teams battling hard in midfield and defenses on top. 22nd thought they had a penalty when Blain was brought down on the edge of the box. But ref adjudged it to be just outside. Sirocco set wall up and Dylan set the ball with a sizable gap at the far post this looked a real opportunity. Dylan stepped up but instead of passing it into the unguarded corner he decided to try and knock down one of the floodlights 🤦‍♂️ terrible free kick, ball went into orbit. Minutes later from a set play Dylan hit the bar and Millsy was on hand to tap in the rebound, 1-0 22nd. At the other end Josh done well to tip over a long range effort to keep the 2's in front. Both teams battled hard to the break without many further opportunities. 1-0 22nd at the break.

Words of encouragement were passed on at half time from the two Willie's with the boys being told to communicate more and to not give up as the Christmas break would test them.

It didn't take long for the lead to be doubled as porter took the ball wide, moved towards goal and placed it past the keeper.
22nd kept the pressure on and again, Porter got on the end of a through ball to slot it past the keeper from a wide angle. 3-0, 2s.
Now the pressure was off and the subs began to warm up.
A crossfield pass into the path of blain saw him thump it past the Sirocco keeper and within minutes, his tenacity saw blain in again with another chance. 5-0 22nd.
Number 6 arrived soon after. A ball floated into the box saw millsy force it into the net. Sirocco kept plugging away and tried to get the ball forward at every opportunity, but the young 2s were able to break and on one occasion this allowed them to pass their way up the pitch with a number of one touch passes with pace and movement. The ball was cut back to big Mason who picked his spot and placed it high into the net. Fantastic team goal and signs that the boys do actually listen on the training pitch. At half time, Phil made the statement that they were putting him to sleep and that he wanted them to impress him in the second half. This goal certainly grabbed his attention. Impressed!👏👏 7-0
With the game closing out, Porter, on a hattrick, unselfishly pulled the ball back for the inform Simpy to get his goal. 8-0, job done and 3 more points on the board. 8-0 22nd

Castle Juniors U17's 0-6 22nd Old Boys U17's

The game started off pretty slow but with 22nd dominating the game . The struggling castle side had 10 men to start the game which soon became 9 due to injury, Jamie Close opened the scoring with a great volley from a corner delivered by Blain, 1-0 22nd and well deserved. Castle fought on which they did well putting us under some pressure with the brave 9 men on the field there backs were up. Some sloppy play from the 2s saw us under some unnecessary pressure but we coped well with it. Castle did remarkably well to hold it to 1-0 at the break

Half time no changes
After a good telling off at half time the baby 2s came out buzzing and more up for it. Dylan.S took off after 40 mins to make way for stewart and james for mason. The game was going our way but needed more goals so then Millsy added to the score sheet after some great passing football in the middle off the field, mason and brandon bossing it to put a lovely through ball to millsy who slotted home, 2-0 22nd. From the restart castle kept some possession for a bit but we defended well with josh having to make a great save from 30 yard effort to push past the post for a corner. Which we defended well,  Hyndman added to the score sheet from around 20 yards out firing home to make it 3-0 . Wasnt long after stuart porter made it 4-0 with previously missing a few he took this one well on the head at the far post after castle couldnt clear there lines. Hyndman picked up another firing home, making it 5-0. The late sub lewis aka pennywise then came on left wing to score almost from the kick off, 6-0 game over. Fair dues to castle battled on to the end and our lads didnt know they had 9 men to half time. Credit where its due.

22nd U17 v St Matthews

Today game was a big one for the 2s we wanted to win this game to try an continue our unbeaten run in the supplementary cup.
The game started pretty slow with both sides proving to be nervous on the ball with lots of mistakes . Around 15 mins in stmatts hit home with a mistake at the back between jamie and josh , was a harsh one for the 2s as much as we weren’t playing great sr mats weren’t much better . 15 mins later the game was still pretty much the same both sides making silly mistakes.  The 2s had got a free kick on the half way mark of the pitch . Jamie close hit a terrible free kick into the box which the keeper was able to gather easy enough without challenge. But then the unthinkable happened st matts goalie droped the ball into the net under no pressure.  1.1 . Half time.

The second half was pretty much the same from both sides but the football was coming and progressing for both. St mmatts managed to nick a goal and ir proved to be the winner as the 2s couldn’t hit back with a few badly placed shots and bad decisions at the wrong times but thats football.
The 2s now look forward to there game v lower maze on Wednesday 3rd October 2019.

22nd u-17s vs comber rec 17s

With it being a lovely bright autumn morning at the home of the 2's 22nd where looking to continue there winning start with a game at home to comber rec who looked like they brought 3 teams with them.

Well the 1st half got underway and with 22nd with a bit of a make shift team didn't start to well as alot of players seemd nervous on the ball. It showed as comber rec playing the better football broke through the 22nd defense and struck a fierce shot that looked destined for the bottom corner only for big josh to make a great save only for the comber striker to pass it into the net but luckily the ref blew for offside. This seemed to spare the 2's into action as they started to get the foot on the ball and play some nice stuff but not creating much infront of goal that was until a loose ball and coist who would 50/50 a train won a 50/50 and it bounced kindly for him who made no mistake in slotting the ball into the bottom corner 1-0 22nd. The 2's had their tails up and started to create good chances and a great through ball seen coist in on goal again and it was the same outcome a nice finish into the bottom corner to make it 2-0 just before the end of the half disaster strike as dylan hyndman who was bossing the midfield seemed to roll his ankle and had to be replaced by are one an only sub wee simpy.

2nd half kicked off and 22nd who seemed to be still in the dugout as comber walked past the midfield and defense strike a shot only for josh making another fine save. After a bit of a rollicking from the sidelines 22nd then woke up and again started to play nice football great pass from dougie say coist in on goal but instead of going for the hat trick decided he would just pass it back to the rec keeper. Comber started to get into the game and play a bit of football and where rewarded with a goal after a shot from 25 yards out and an uncharacteristic mistake from josh seen the ball slip through his hands and into the net 2-1 this angered the beast in 22nd dylan who had came off said he was feeling ok to come back on so a change was made with stewart coming off and dylan back and a bit of a formation change seemed to have worked as 5 minutes after the change blain raced forward and out came a rushing keeper for a 50/50 and again the bounce fell nicely for the 2s as it hit blain on the knee and went into the open goal 3-1 22nd. 22nd then played keep ball to fully knock the wind out of the comber rec sails and with seconds to go dougie decide he wanted in on the goal scoring and from 18 yards out rattled a shot that hit the bar then post before hitting the back of the net and striaght after the ref blew for full time snd a good convincing 4-1 win to make it 2 in 2 for the 2's.

22nd 17s vs Carryduff colts 17s

The big day had arrived as William Simpson and William Cheung both made there long awaited return to youth team management. The day started with club secretary Brian Kirker arriving with a flat tire which had the travelling 22nd boys in fits off laughter and kirker crying as he had to fork out over £200 on 3 new tires 😂😂😂.

Now on to the football 22nd got the game kicked off and straight away started playing some nice football with alot 1 and 2 touch passing and it wasn't long before 22nd got their first chance when young stewart running on to a great through ball all to see himself have a feeble attempt on goal this happened for the next 15 minutes with 22nd playing good football but in the final 3rd dougie , aaron , dylan and stewart all hitting feeble attempts straight at the keeper. 22nd still with the majority of the ball seen themselves get a corner which was cleared only to fall to big mason who from 25 yards out rattled one towards goal which looked destined for the top corner only for the carryduff goalkeeper to pull off a great fingertip save to push it on the bar this seemed to spare carrydufd on abit as they then started to get into the game and have a few chances altho nothing that troubled big Joshua in the 22nd net. 22nd seemed to get there foot back in the game and a nice bit off play seen coist through on goal and the wee man made no mistake in slotting the ball into the bottom corner 1-0 22nd. The boys then seemed to fall asleep as carryduff with most of the possession and on the dying seconds before half time carryduff broke through from a throw in and there left winger rattled the ball into the 22nd net 1-1 game restarted and the ref blew for half time awful time to concede a goal.

After a bit of a reshuffle at half time 22nd made a few tactic changes and a sub with stewart coming off and marcus coming on. The game kicked off with 22nd seeming a bit shaky and nervous at the back after conceding the let carryduff have a few shots on goal but again nothing that josh couldn't handle. After a bit of a telling off from the sideline the boys shook of those nervous and started to play football again like they did for most of the 1st half but yet again the feeble attempts was being hit once again. 22nd where playing well and management were happy they where creating chances 10mins into 2nd half young dylan with no other option from about 20 or more yards out rattled one into the far top left corner take a bow son and 2-1 22nd. We continued to play the better football with young dylan dominating the midfield carryduff got a throw and from a lump up the pitch from there left back some how managed to find the back of 22nds net 2-2 and totally against the run of play 22nd management then made a few substitutions with blain being one of them who came on and being on the pitch 5 mins had been on the ground about 8 times with falling but after finding his legs and feet started to whip in some great balls into the box only for the 22nd front men not to take advantage as the game ran on it looked like it was going to finish a draw only for in the dying seconds a great ball into the box seen blain scramble the ball into the net at the back post last kick off the game as the ref blew for full time and a good 1st win for the lads.
